im thinking of splitting up my usual 5 big meals a day and cutting the serving sizes in half to make 10 meals a day. ive been around a few years but not by any means an expert i still want to learn. what i would like though is a sciency run down of the benifits of eating this amount of meals in a day and the pros and cons, and then vice verca a run down of eating less than say 5 meals a day and the pros and cons there. or even your own opinions.

and yes on 10 meals a day i would have to eat every hour.

There has been some research by Layne Norton that suggests eating 4-5 meals over a 24hr period could be optimal but has not been proved out right but from a theory from research he did for his PHD. He found that in taking say 60g of protein in one meal wasn't optimal for protein synthesis and that it is the leucine content of protein sources was the anabolic driver. He recommends about 2-3g of leucine that is needed to max out protein synthesis and that equates about 20-40g of protein per meal.

Eating more meals can also balance blood sugars better resulting in less fat gain which can be helpful when bulking or cutting. Have a read of this: Meal Frequency for Mass Gains | BodyRecomposition - The Home of Lyle McDonald
