I tend to do weights in the morning before work.

What would you recommend taking on board before working out and after?

I usually work out 30-45 minutes after I have woken up!!

Immediately upon waking 40g whey and 2 ripe bananas, maybe a couple plums too. Afterwards have 100g oats and 30g whey.

Can i ask why protein first? I thought it was carbs before and protein immedietly after. I add whey to my powdered oats in the morning for a breakfast shake anyways but only to pad it out.

No, carbs and protein together. The only carb you shouldn't have protein with is Waxy maize

Yes, in this guys situation though he needs faster digesting carbs before his workout. I would also advise he has low GI carbs before bed the night before to make sure glycogen is high.

The suggestions above are good but generally it depends upon you.

basically anything in the way of carbs and protein that you can get down without it coming back up halfway through a set of squats would be best no matter what it is...

Waxy maise starch, hydrolysed proteins, leucine etc are no good to you if they are in a puddle under the power rack!

That said generally I would say as it's am, directly before a workout and previously fasted (both food and water): 'fast', liquid carbs and protein consumed before, sipped during and after, in a well diluted solution.

Or alternatively work on proper post workout nutrition from the workout(s) before as the glycogen is locked away in the muscle tissue.

I'm not suggesting you are wrong BTW!!! It's my experience that most BB'ing people (as opposed to endurance athletes or higher volume trainers such as athletes) just don't need this type of pre-fueling, especially if they are worried about body composition.

I couldn't hack 2 bananas and 40g of protein as it would be on the floor!

What carbs/protein mix would absorb the quickest?

Any drink or mix I could buy from MP?

BTW thanks for your help guys

It doesn't have to be to complex just some whey, and carbs.
