(you can post in here can't you?)

Are there any women around at all?

I have a dumb situation. I've only started a structured weights programme in the last few weeks, and have been going to the gym before work (6:30am start). It's mainly free weights based, which is fine first thing in the morning when that area is empty.
But last weekend I went in the middle of the day, and to my horror the free weights section was completely hogged up with meatball heads staring at themselves in the mirrors - I didn't know what to do with myself. I eventually worked up the guts to do some alternatives on the cables, but other than that just kept to the machines out of the way. Apart from one point when the men disappeared and I took the opportunity to get in some one arm rows and deadlifts before scuttling off again when they came back

Has anyone been intimidated by men working out in the same area? Maybe it's just because I'm not used to having them all around. Or maybe I should just stick to the mornings...

Any men wanting to chip in, it'd be interesting to hear your side on this too, what goes through mens heads when a new lady swipes their dumbbells?

there are quite a few ladies around. possibly work stuff or studies getting in the way at the moment.

i respect ladies that train in the free weights section. it shows that they are more clued up with training knowledge and strong women.

if you feel more comfortable training in the mornings, then stick with it. you should enjoy your training. its for you and no one else.

there is usually some eegits of meatheads but most guys are well safe and will help out if you ask. the eegits try and intimidate both male and females.

had one fat eegit last night in the gym who tried to muscle me off my dumbell. i was doing one arm dumbell snatches and he wanted it for his shoulder pressing, and throughout my exercise he was giving me the eye. he got his dumbell when i finished my exercise.

bumped into him again upstairs on the stretching mats. real men do handstand presses!

So far it seems the women stick to the cross trainers and the men stick to the weights, I do see plenty of women on the machines, but none doing free weights as of yet.

I'll go in with the men when I can lift more maybe! There's no way I'm trotting through that lot to pick up my 22.5kg barbell.

I'm only on 10kg dumbbells at the moment Which is the main reason I won't go near, it's embarrassing.

    I'll stick to the mornings

a few ladys come into the free weight area of my place, they clearly know what there doing, have good form, dont mess on like the bicep boys/mirror muscle lot with pointless 1kg kickbacks etc and are well respected by the majority for it.

Hey we'd encourage a guy struggling to DL 50kg so why not a female who can do it with out breaking sweat

Generally, very few women on the weights in my gym - although if there are, they tend to be on the lighter ones (haha check me out - stronger than a girl!). I am sure most people don't have a problem with girls in the gym specifically - I know I just get impatient when someone is hogging the bench, or the kit i want to use, but not specifically male or females!
