Pay for gym instructor in most Branded places is 12,000 k

Big chain PT is the biggest con ever, pay them 700 quid a month rent and work 60-80 hours a week to make about 14,000 k - 16,000k a year if there are say 12 other PT's in the club and you have a membership base of a few thousand, you might even end up earning 12,000k. The lies and hassling of members to become your client is painful and repetitive.

The fact is the fitness industry is over crowded with instructors and PT's. A lot of them have no idea and you can do a course online to qualify with limited gym practical experience!!?? The fact is that most PT's don't earn a lot at all. I have seen a lot get into debt as they buy cars on finance trying to live up to an image of being successful.

I think you can make a fair bit of extra money if you do it on the side locally and charge say 20 quid or less per session. Or if you’re serious about a full blown career then a lot of people now are also training in outdoor adventure type courses etc. This sets them apart and is far less than giving a gym 700 quid per month. If you specialised in kayaking and also mountain biking (just an idea but both very popular and instructor courses aren't that expensive) you could take them out on the water one day then do the strength training on another.

Alternatively get qualified as a strength and conditioning coach and look at getting some experience with team sports and working with athletes. This will open up potential Olympic training opportunities in the future and also football, tennis, golf jobs with clubs etc. This is a very well paid salary job, however you need to be at a very good standard and have good experience to get any where.

Sorry to bump an old thread but I wondered how the OP got on?
I am also looking at re-training as a personal trainer but having just spent the past 4 years and £21k training as a teacher, a 2 week £700 course just isnt possible for me
