    Hi my wife wants to do weight training to get stronger+toned but not bigger. What would be the best rep range for her?

    Not very helpful, sorry!...read the journals of someone like JAG, Karryann or Emma...they are 3 women doing 3 different things, 3 very different ways so I have no doubt you'll find something to suit.

    Maybe start with 3sets of 12reps, with compound exercises. There are many ways to start strength/weight training, depends what she has already done/doing right now.

    I've just started weight training and my trainer has me doing 5x5 - he totally recommends this for beginners as is a great way to increase strength. It's also better to stick to lower reps to ensure the form is consistent - a beginner doing higher reps is more likely to fail on their form. I'm adding 5kg a week to squat and deadlift and 2.5kg per week to bench and overhead press. As Karryann mentions above best to stick to compound lifts.
