BBC NEWS | Health | Watchdog warning on saturated fat

    Nu you've gotta watch this!

That actually annoys me deeply and i'm not particularly 'pro sat fat' anymore, the way the advert comes across is that eating saturated fats it simply 'clogs' up in the arteries, which simply has about as much truth as the fact i can bench press 2000kg.

My personal opinion is that fatty acid composition in diet is important, no one would disagree but saturated fat does not directly cause these problems, it's all dependant on what your lipoprotein ratios are doing etc, which are changed by many things, including saturated fat levels, they make out like it's only saturated fat that causes the problem by 'clogging up', utter twoddle!

It completely blinds out much more important factors in heart disease, magnesium deficiency, they never mention that despite most of the uk being deficient do they? what about vitamin D?
    What about omega ratios? no.

Carrot peelings and fish scales block up my sink does that mean i should stop eating carrots and fish??

My mom saw an advert last night while we were in the middle of watching 24. She went ape and was like omg i have to cut out all saturated fat, then when i took 2-3 mins to explain to her that not the case 100% she calmed down abit. This is huge scaremongering from the government.

This is exactly the problem i have.

Like i say i have my own views on saturated fats and don't think a diet high in saturated fats is necc good but that dosn't mean it's necc bad, depending on the ratios of EFAs, it's totally possible to eat loads of sat fat and have no heart disease depending on other dietary factors.

It's the fact that saturated fat is made out as an insidious poison that will block your arteries even in small amounts.

Scaremongering indeed, i've no doubt they don't actually believe that it directly blocks the arteries but they've done it for shock tactics. (in a similar manner to those smoking ads with the arterial plaque dropping out of the end of the fag)

similar responce from my missus watching it last night too. How I laughed when I reminded her what you get when you mix flour with water then pointed to the sandwich and drink she was having at the time.

Those fag advets, along with the ones where the guy with breathing apperatutus being interviewed on his couch where what got me to quit.

Hopefully the supermarkets respond to these adverts on sat fat by dropping the price of beef steaks!!!

Same old, same old. You've got to give it to the government, though, they certainly know how to use propaganda to demonise the innocent and sanctify the guilty!

I'm not interested in arguing this case any more - the evidence is out there if people care to really look. Anybody who thinks anything this - or any government - has to say is even remotely credible or truthful nowadays is surely a brainless sheep?

Follow the mainstream advice - see where it gets you - I'm keeping my own council from now on!

That would be a dream come true, cheaper steak!

Edit: Just done some quick extra research and found a study that said

"The scientific evidence, honestly evaluated, does not support the assertion that "artery-clogging" saturated fats cause heart disease. Actually, evaluation of the fat in artery clogs reveals that only about 26% is saturated. The rest is unsaturated, of which more than half is polyunsaturated."

If we get enough people they might get it taken off air, ala Russell Brand and Jon Ross. BBC do seem that stupid...
