Hey Rik,
Sorry for the late reply. I haven't looked at the research journals for pro-enamel toothpastes so I can't comment for sure about their effectiveness. Iam guessing they have a high mineral content which can help repair softened enamel (caused by something such as acidic food, acid produced by oral bacteria) so in theory they should work. The saliva is the bodys own natural way of dealing with acid damage. It contains minerals which can repair the softened enamel.
Where abouts are your lower front teeth thinning? Is it the tip, lip side, tongue side- of the teeth?
If they are thinning at an alarming rate, I suspect acid erosion +/- possible over zealous brushing technique.
You are best to see a dentist as I can't diagnose it here but if you give me some more information about your diet- I can do a diet analysis for you. If you log the times of what you eat for a weekday and a weekend plus toothbrushing/oral hygiene times I can help advise on how to reduce the wear and improve the health of your teeth.
There is info here in this thread (earlier posts) regarding brushing technique and advice on how to repair softened enamel after acidic food.
Hope I helped a little
Muse ive recently switched to a very low cost toothpaste (17p asda), is this wise? I was under the impression that as long as fluoride (sodium fluoride i think?)was present within the ingredients it was sensible and ok to use?
