    Hello everyone,

I've had a quick look around the forum and feel just a little bit intimidated at all the muscle and hardcore workouts/diets going on here ........which means you all know your stuff!

Ok, im female, 23, 5''5 and 7.5 stone

I've been at a gym since i turned 16 to keep the weight down and stay fit. And then i woke up the other morning and decided i want alot more tonage and definition, especially in my abs. So ive knocked my weights up and im definitely feeling the effects in my abs, thighs and chest!!

Im at uni studying exercise nutrition and health, so my diet isnt too bad. And i know a bit about diet and fitness in general. But i've never taken supplements so im a newbie in that area and i want to try it out.

I'm quite small and i tone up pretty nicely if i put loads of effort in it. But i need to get more protein in my diet since i dont eat tonnes of it. And unfortunately i have an egg white intolerance..

The main reason im here is to find out which protein supplement i should go for (preferably in shake form). I want to tone up - increase muscle mass, and keep BF as low as possible. I've had a quick look at impact whey isolate and total protein.... are these any good or is there others which'd give better results?

My pics are in the members section. I havent trained hard for a while so dont expect too much lol

But we all started not knowing anything, so dont worry!

The protein shake your after would be whichever one will help you to hit your protein total for the day. A good start is the Impact Whey, its just a basic whey but gets the job done perfectly, no need to spend more on something that wont give you any more.

Do you know which supplements you thought you might take? None are essential, they are literally just to 'supplement' a good diet. Personally, I'd reccomend the whey above if you cant hit your protein total with food and also a fish oil/omega 3 and multivitamin - I think MP do a female vitamin

    last but not least, welcome!!

Hi and welcome. It's good to see another girl, there are a few of us on here
Don't worry about being a beginner, we all started the same. I'm still learning! Everyone here is real helpful.
As you have already been advised , impact whey protein is a good protein to take, and some good flavours, a multi vit/mineral supp, and a a omega 3/ fish oil should cover all your bases. If you want to gain muscle you will need to up your calories a little, ie eat more. If you want more advice about diet and training it would be an idea to post up what you eat and your training , so we can help.

so you can eat the yolks ? :-)

budget kind of comes into it but for me personally: true whey/bcaa's, fish oil, multivit, vit d, calcium (if you dont do dairy)
cant stress the importance of 'real' food though, especially if your a greedy guts like me!

total protein is a good way to get a lot of protein in one hit plus it has flaxseed in i think? i quite liked the choc flavour when i first bought it but for some reason by the end of the pouch i wasn't at all looking fwd to aving my shake! each to their own though, you might like it..
    veggie might!

    welcome!!
truey whey works for me, but as suggested, only to get your protein intake high when its not possible with whole foods..and of course its more convenient to use after training
    good luck!

Unless you are lactose intolerant then there's no need to pay the premium for isolate, it won't make any difference. Just buy the Impact Whey Protein and save your pennies.

Everyone else has said "hi" so I will too. Hi.

You have just become, "someone to watch", for me ... anyone who can invent a completely new word that makes complete sense is definitely worth reading.

The word? "Tonage" ... brilliant!! Ha ha ha!!!

    lol Hi wotan

Bison, thanks for that! To be honest, I specifically looked into the whey isolate purely because of the low fat and carb content.. I'm only going off the descriptions and the figures, the rest is up to you lot. What is the actual difference between the two then? Apart from price

Kazuya, yeah i can eat yolks, they're not something i find particularly appetizing though, and obviously the fat content in 6yolks is somewhat higher than that of 6 whites :-o

Kerryann, although i want to gain a little muscle, i'm not a big eater and i dont want to drastically increase my calorie intake. I spose i'm more comfortable drinking pure protein in liquid form than solid food! Ideally i want to convert any fat into muscle and need a bit of help to go along side my workouts, shakes seem quick and easy
