I thought I would make a thread allowing members to name and shame their gyms. I know a lot of you workout in state of the art gyms but some of us don't.

    St Austell Rugby Club

I'd like to warn everyone about this gym. The equipment is in an atrocious state and the management don't seem to care. They keep promising to upgrade and replace equipment but all they actually do is paint the old stuff and pass it off as new. As a result, a workout for me is like playing Russian roulette with a fully loaded gun!

    Barbell 1
Tonight as I was about to start squatting the end of the barbell fell off! It's been broken for nearly 6 months and despite countless complaints nothing has been done about it. All they needed to do was tighten the bolt holding the end on but they haven't bothered. They didn't even remove the barbell from the gym and have let people use it in a broken state without warning.

    Barbell 2
It doesn't seem to be a standard Olympic barbell. It looks and feels the same but the ends are a few mm smaller. None of the collars fit properly and weights just slide off when the bar bends.

    Squat Rack
About six months ago the screws holding the rack to the floor started to loosen. The management fixed this problem by removing the screws and glueing it to the floor. Not the brightest idea considering the floor is made out of plastic! That ripped within days meaning the rack tipped over whenever anyone placed the barbell back. This problem was finally fixed last week.

    Bench

Tonight as someone was benching the cushioned part fell off. The bench was painted a few weeks ago and only two of the six screws were used to reattach the top. It hasn't been safe since they painted it and obviously wasn't checked before it was allowed back in the gym.

    Dumbbells
Far too many incidents to mention but weights breaking and falling on people is a common occurrence. When broken they disappear for months and return in a half fixed state. They really should be scrapped but the management don't seem willing to buy new ones.

    Clock
The batteries died over a year ago and only recently got replaced. That's how tight the management of this gym are!

If your gym is as bad as or worse than mine name and shame it!

Join another gym mate, that's no good.

I like my gym, cheap & pretty good gear. My only complaint is weekend opening times, but I can live with that.

    Total fitness

    no 1.25kg oly plates
Only 4 oly bars, when there is like 10 pieces of equiptment needing them
No oly platforms (Deadlifts can get rather loud)
    DBs not labelled
    Lots of DBs missing
    No proper squat rack

...Thats about all, if they could rectify these probelms, it would be a perfect gym, but i just put up with it and work around the problems where possible.

Thinking about getting a membership at gym21.
Use referer code MP4037 for 5% off your first order.
    It's the best one!

all 3 barbells are bent....and when i am squatting and my mate is deadlifting nobidy can bench press....

not enough disks, when i go heavy on deads the rest of the gym has to make do with only 5 kgs..

bench press is slightly incline so have to place 20 disk under the foot at the front to level it out.

smith machine is a floating bar piece of **** 1...

lots of free weight room but only 3 benches...

dumbells stop at 40kg.... 42.5s and 45s are these really old different ones that just sit in the corner unused by most.. also the handles of the recently purchased 2-40kgs are super thick and have no thin part to grip!

has way to many cable machines but doesnt even have a power rack or decline bench press.

chalk is banned.. aprently "if everyone else can go without it then so can i.." my reply was quite simply "no1 else lifts 200kg+ in this gym..."

    lol touche

    Myerscough College Preston

    Dumbells
They arnt labled, they have strange grips so unless you keep your arm at 90 degrees while benching they dig into ur wrists. Becauses they arnt labled we normally have 17.5kg next to the 25kg. No wonder people think they are so strong.

    Benchs
Only have 3, 1 one decline, 1 for incline and a flat bench which is attached to a rack

    Flooring
1" thick carpet... do i need say more?

    Barbells
Only 2, but saying that they were getting 3 more for an olympic weightlifting room so that should cover it, and with bumper plates !!

    Plates
    At most their is 300kg worth of plates. Their is routhly this amount;

    2 25kg
    6 20kg
    6 10kg
    6 5kg
    6 2.5kg
    10 1.25kg

I dread the time when i am doing 200kg deadlifts, even now using all 6 20kg plates isnt logical..

    Personal Trainer
The only guy who spends time in their is a guy called Ian Fenton, he is a nice guy. Pritty big aswell but so annoying, his comments when i am doing deadlifts piss me off so much 'dont drop the weight its to loud' 'why are you using chalk?! no one else uses chalk' piss's me off! and his training career is ruled by timing training. 20 second on 40 seconds off, 2 seconds eccentric, 10 seconds concentric.
