Ok, we all know just how important our sleep is- the thing is, many people still find that despite sleeping for 6-8 hours per night, sometimes more, they still feel tired the following.

    Why is this the case?

I have been working for one of the UK's leading bed companies for just over 1 year and some of the facts about beds and sleeping are remarkable. Most people do not know what their bed is like on the inside or what support it can give. Most people on this forum have probably never even gone out and bought a new bed or mattress- so how do they know what to look for?

Really, go on, tell me about the mattress you have now. Does it give you the best support your body asks for?

We all talk on this forum about healthy diet and supplementation, whether for sport or health. We all (hopefully!) exercise in some way to keep fit, healthy or in shape. But how many of us think that, except for time, maybe a new bed or mattress is the answer to aches, pains or injuries.

**Please note now that yes, I am a sales person working for the company, however I am not telling you the name unless I am asked AND it is permitted.**

We spend a third of our lives in bed and, except for our homes in general, we dont use anything as much. The problem with a bed is that you cant get your mates round to show it off, you cant go down the pub and tell people about it because no one really knows anything about them, except that you sleep on them!

What the purpose of this thread is is to ask everyone to tell me as much about their bed as they can and how they feel it helps them. There are numerous different types of mattress and spring systems (or not in some cases!) and certain ones give better support. I will explain how it all works if people ask

As I said previously, people underestimate the importance of their bed. I hear it every day- " Oh a beds a bed" or "I can sleep anywhere" (why buy a bed then if u can just sleep on your floor)

my advice- DONT underestimate your bed. I will answer my opening paragraph now. When we sleep, obviously 6 hours is better than 1. However, it is the quality of the sleep (well all know about the importance of REM right?) that is the real factor. A mattress that doesnt give the proper level of support creates pressure on certain parts of your body. When you are in your deep sleep, and your body realises it needs to move, it comes out of that deep sleep, moves, then tries to get back into it. The most basic mattresses (most likely the ones that most people on here will have, because most people everywhere do!) are the worst culprits.

So tell me a bit about the bed you have now?

I sleep naked in a pod that covers me a mineral rich protein gel substrate, oxygen rich pollutant free air is supplied by a mask, temperature is held at a constant 18.5 C
It detects my brain wave patterns and pulsates with different colour lights and sounds to ensure the best sleep known to humanity, i wake up every morning feeling like god.

Actually i've just got a compfortable king size bed (to myself), duvet and about 6 pillows that i scatter around in a comfortable supporting pattern.

I also sleep naked because boxers constrict your morning wood.

£400 memory foam type mattress, it's not actually memory foam, but is made up of lots of foam layers... this doesn't hold it's shape as much as memory foam, but it does support the position I'm lying in.

Best factor is due to this mattress and a nice big chunky frame, it makes no squeaky noises during youknowwhat!

So tell me, why does my £400 mattress not help me sleep any better than before?!

I cant tell you what the best mattress is, because only you will know that by feel. does your mattress have memory foam in it? if not, it will still provide you with excellant support because it is foam, which will mould to your shape better than most sprung matresses.

Coil sprung (feels like bigger ones and smaller ones mixed in), very firm matress....just how i like them.

I HATE any matress that 'absorbs' you, any of these tempur/bodyform matresses i hate, i don't like sinking into a bed, i like rolling up in my duvet with the pillows around me and forming a 'nest'

I want to reiterate something here as well- if you have a bed and it is giving you excellant support, you waken up pretty much every day feeling refreshed and it does its proper job, then excellant. if you have problems, I can point in right direction

RC- mattresses that form around you are the 'best'- we want to sleep in our bed, not on our bed. to firm and it takes away any support to your lower back.

however, everyone is different. if you have a firm mattress and its how you like it, isnt giving problems and you are sleeping well, great!

So you all know, the best bed that anyone can ever get is a Water Bed

i sleep on a kingsize ikea bed, the mattress is just a bog standard mattress, i have a 4 inch memory topper on top of it, Egyptian cotton material on my duvet and pillows

i would say my sleep would be 9/10

sometimes i cant get to sleep but thats not to do with my bed, more to do with napping early on in the day. But when i am really tired, get on the bed and i 9/10 get my full sleep, only waking if i need a pee which isnt often
