wats up guys, got my results back from my mri scan i have a bulged disc pushing against a nerve on my spinal cord which is giving me severe discomfort, any way been referred to get an injection into my spine to kill this nerve which could work for 3 weeks 3 months or just 3 days,

Been in touch with some great physios and back specialists who all say they can do nothing for me and that my only option is the injection, until a friend of my mum told me about this new american procedure

    www.tamars.co.uk

its a new procedure from america and has a clinic close to me, from talking to one of the specialists on the phone he was horrified that i was told to get an injection as it could lead to further damage, because the nerve will be dead and you will not feel the pain or damaged you are doing to your back through every day activity and hopefully when i get back to football and weights

He was very confident when he said he could fix the problem, as had done so before in the past most reccently with a 22 year old rugby player who played at a high level had 2 bulged discs and after treatment they sent him for an mri to prove the discs had ceased to bulge and the condition had went away

Sorry for such a long thread but im sure u will all understand i hurt my back on the 6 of dec and am bitting at the bit to get back to my normal lifestyle but at the same time was taking my time as your back is a very important part of your body and you dnt want it f****d up anymore was wondering has anyone heard of this treatment or know of anyne who has used it?

sounds like it will fix me right up and all the responses from patients on the web and local news papers sound too good to be true!!

thanks for taking the time to read this autobiography!!lol

A prolapsed disc can usually be managed with non-invasive treatment, and I am quite surprised that other professionals have written you off so quickly.

Tamars to me looks like another Chiropractic gimmick that is at best a placebo, and at worst a makeshift device forever trying to support the subluxation theory behind chiropractic as a profession.

During a prolapse as you have describe the nucleus pulposis, which is primarily water and mixed proteins and compounds, pushes through the annulus fibrosis ring which is as the name describes a fibrous tough compound that helps to space the vertebral discs. During heavy loading what can happen is that the watery nucleus pulposis pushes through whatever way it can, and in your case through the posterior longitudinal ligament, which just so happens to be the weaker one, and compresses on the dura of the spinal cord which runs down the spinal canal.

Of course an appropriately managed and closely monitored treatment plan should over say the course of 6 months or so help you to return to normal activity. HOwever, because you have mentioned that someone wants to 'kill' the nerve, I am entirely unsure if this is the actual diagnosis.

i dnt know the difference of a prolapsed disc and a bulged disc or if infact they are the same?

But i do know that after several hundred of pounds of money spent on physio and chyriopractors etc and to no avail and with the results of my mri scan and then going back to very reputable physios and chyriopractors with the results they all tell me that this cannot be fiaxed and the injection is my only way forward,

after reading the testimonals from users of tamars and as i do understand your concern as another gymnic i feel that this is my only way forward,

believe me i have faith in physios etc but when everyone tells you that they cannot help with a bulged disc apart from simple exercises that might encourage the bulge to go back in you, and with his calkl that he fixed the young rugby players back i think this is my best call?

Are you a physio chyrio canuck?
    Thanks for the reply

'Cos discussion of medical issues is against forum rules. Certainly, offering diagnosis/treatment advice is. However, you have gotten the diagnosis and treatment options already from qualified sources and are just asking for opinions on the options with which you have been presented, so as long as it doesn't go any further than that, I see no reason to be heavy-handed - and I am so biting my tongue right now!

There is no indication in my thread that I was providing medical advice. As an Allied Health Care professional I am very aware and cautious about giving advice over the web. However, that being said there is no reason that words of caution and appropriate awareness unto a certain practice/modality can not be brought to the attention of a service user. There are many medical, physiotherapy forums on the web which provide information freely, and far from being a diagnosis or dangerous therapy, it is important to highlight to individuals the options within the current health care system.
