Save the cheerleader; save the world![]()
I just watched Independence Day, one of my favourite feel good films. But I'm just an insignificant chap on this vast planet and in the scheme of things will only be here for the blink of an eye. So with only one pathetic vote available to me what can I do to change or save the world? Help me.

Burn off all your body fat and muscle helping the world then commit suicide in an environmentally friendly way, well actually the working yourself to death would be the solution all in one.
Anyway, how do you define helping the world?
Helping humans needs, helping the environment and species other than man?
The two don't really go together.
For every decent act you do there's 1000 others to tear down your work and piss all over your grave.
Sorry for the pessimism.

In order to 'save' the world (to paraphrase Pamela Stephenson's character in Superman III: "The World is way past saving"!) you have to change a lot of things and/or a lot of people. But it is a truism that the only thing you can truly change is yourself! So change yourself into the type of person who acts and behaves in such a way that the world will be saved. You may not achieve the end goal yourself but you may serve as an example for others to follow. If enough people change themselves too then maybe, just maybe, you will save the world!

The world doesn't need saving. A few hundred years from now one of the following will have likely happened:
1) We'll have used up all useful resources and reverted back to a roughly medieval stage of life. The world will heave a sigh of relief that we're no longer mining the beejesus out of its resources and wiping out it's biodiversity at an alarming rate.
2) We'll have expanded out into space and will be embarking on the next stage of our evolution. We'll still be heavily using the resources of the Earth, but so long as we manage them carefully, the Earth and ourselves will survive. If not then see scenario one above.
3) We'll have wiped ourselves out in a global nuclear war. This will be a major setback as far as biodiversity is concerned, but many simpler species will likely survive (****roaches, bacteria, etc.) and evolution will progress as it always does.

"Eat food. As much as you want. Mostly animals." - Matt Stone
(What do the two quotes above have in common?)
Bah screw the world, i'm going to rinse it for all its worth and then die a happy man. I'm not so self righteous to think that anything i could do would make an impact on the future of this planet.

Well maybe not by your standards no, happiness is a subjective thing. Although to be fair i wasn't being serious, i just don't think changing the world is an acheivable feat for me. Handy X may have it in him to be the next messiah i suppose?
