That's crazy, and another great step towards the future from our wonderful government.
I hope there's a short warning before the pass this, if it gets that far, then we can all stock up.

This petition is an excellent idea. Germany has already adopted this lunacy. For me to actually get a herbal supplement or even an effective form of vitamin like magesium ascorbate I need to go and see a doctor and get a perscription.
It is completely ridiculous. Any supps I order from the States immediately get seized bz customs under this policy on the principle they are medicines even, get this, if they are still actually allowed in Germany.

Thanks, GB. It's good that you have highlighted your own personal, real-life experience with this legislation because many people read about what it entails but somehow don't seem to grasp the implications, or the reality, of it!
It's ridiculous that, as adults, we are 'trusted' to go to a supermarket and by some cheap multi-vitamin/mineral tablets that include synthetics like alpha-DL-tocopherol or poorly assimilated inorganic forms of minerals like iron oxide (which is basically rust!) - not to mention aspirin, paracetamol, strong liquor, razor blades and knves - but we have to go to our GP to be able to get the 'real deal', naturally potent vitamins and minerals on prescription!

Thanks for that NU. As said, I have already reposted this thread topic on another forum. To further illustrate the restrictions this policy will impose:
In Germany, we still have H&B equivalents and there are supplement companies. However the range of products is appalling.
Supp companies sell: creatine, protein, some kind of isotonic stuff (usually 90% sugar) and magnesium/calcium liquid and there are not the salts, just the bog standard type. I haven't been able to find anywhere where the protein powder is just protein. Also a huge amount of CLA available, that's pretty much the strongest fat burner there is!
H&B equivalents: various types of vitamins and minerals. No chelated forms, no salts. Fibre supps available, usually some type of protein powder. Dried fruit and so on. Appalling.
Things like sida and yomhimbine are illegal, as are a lot of other much less potent herbs. Before 50% was available from the UK I used to order it from the States and it kept getting stopped because, I kid you not, it smelt like medicine ?!?!
There is a huge range of various herbal teas and all sorts of random vitamin combinations, most of which have exactly the same in when you read the labels. Oh and fishoil is ridiculously expensive.
I have to go to a pharmacist to get ascorbic acid aka vit c powder and get a lecture on not to take too much. Hell I can't even go into a pharmacy and get a panadol equivalent! It's ridiculous.
This seems like a rather short sighted policy that benefits noone other than big pharmaceuticals.
If it becomes the case that we are required to have a GP's blessing first, then it'll increase the number of people who visit a GP and increase the amount of paperwork they have to do. Naturally, if they have to do paperwork, then you're going to get charged for it. Given that there is a shortage of GPs already, taxing their time with an even greater volume of people, would not seem the best way to go with respect to best utilizing their time.
Correct Daffy! So it is no surprise to find that the prime movers and shakers who lobbied organisations like the Codex Alimentarius, World Trade Organisation and others into shaping this legislation were the big phamaceutical firms! In fact, people directly or financially linked with some of the biggest pharmaceutical firms actively serve on many of these 'expert' panels which then make these sweeping decisions on our behalf!
