I saw this quote above the door of my new gym. I thought you guys would appreciate it.

"Obsession is the lazy person's word for Dedication"

    I like that.

    A lot.

We have some quotes pinned up at the gym as well, I think one of them is about winners falling down and losers getting up or something along those lines lol

    I like this one:

"Whether you think you can or whether you think you can't, you're right." (Henry Ford)

    and also:

"Trying is the first step towards failure". (Homer Simpson)

    "Concieve, believe, achieve"

It keeps negative thoughts out of my head anyway

    I'm liking the quotes!
God, I have so many. One of my favourites has to be Aristotle:

"Patience is bitter, but its fruit is sweet"

And Henry Ford came up with another gem:

"When everything seems to be going against you, remember that an aeroplane takes off against the wind, not with it"

    Anybody else got any?
Happiness comes from the capacity to feel deeply, to enjoy simply, to think freely, to risk life, to be needed

Not a quote, but a fave short poem of mine is 'Do not go gentle into that good night' by Dylan Thomas, urging his farther in his last moments to fight to the bitter end:

    Quote Quote
Do not go gentle into that good night,
    Old age should burn and rave at close of day;
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Though wise men at their end know dark is right,
Because their words had forked no lightning they
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Good men, the last wave by, crying how bright
Their frail deeds might have danced in a green bay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,
And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way,
Do not go gentle into that good night.

Grave men, near death, who see with blinding sight
Blind eyes could blaze like meteors and be gay,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

And you, my father, there on the sad height,
Curse, bless me now with your fierce tears, I pray.
Do not go gentle into that good night.
Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

    Dylan Thomas, 1951
For me, this summarises my attitude towards life - to fight tooth and nail for what i want, and against mediocrity and the sloth-like attitude towards living i see everywhere around me.

Richard Dawkins has said some great lines:

"There is such a thing as being so open-minded that our brains drop out"

"I am against religion because it teaches us to be satisfied with not understanding the world"

"We are all atheists about most of the gods that societies have ever believed in. Some of us just go one god further"

From Douglas Adams: "Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?"

For which Richard Dawkins followed up with: "There may be fairies at the bottom of the garden. There is no evidence for it, but you can't prove that there aren't any, so shouldn't we be agnostic with respect to fairies? "

That is a fantastic poem HTTK. I never really was a big fan of Dylan Thomas (read some of his stuff while doing my Eng Lit A Level) but I never read this one. It's brilliant, and has been copied onto my computer...THANK YOU!

As for Richard Dawkins, GENIUS. I particularly like ""We are all atheists about most of the gods that societies have ever believed in. Some of us just go one god further"

I would put one of my favourite poems up but it's a tad depressing so I wont!

I would also like to commend you for this HTTK. Too often people today expect life to be handed to them on a plate. That what they want should be given to them. That they should be able to have the body they want without having to work for it... and so on.

It's infuriating and I think damaging for society as it encourages the "me me me" attitude and utter selfishness. And like you say, a sloth like attitude which gets us all precisely nowhere! Don't pretend to be something or someone you are not.

To me if you are going to do something do it all the way or don't do it at all. All or nothing, all the time.
