I noticed recently my laptop was not updating, well I wasn't getting the prompt to install updates.

Looked down on the right hand icon bar and the little yellow shield was there saying updates are ready to be installed. I clicked on it and installed.

Thing is the shield remains and every time I hover my cursor over it it says updates are ready to be installed! So I've done this now about twenty times! It doesn't seem right? Obviously updates have been building up over the last couple of weeks but I would have thought I would only need to click this thing once and all the updates would install at the same time!

Am I gonna have to keep installing every individual update or is something up with this machine??

hey luffers.i had a problem with automatic updates for a while.altho not the same as yours i couldnt get on to automatic updates page at all.
i contacted microsoft and they advised me to go on to malwarebytes.org and d-load their free trial and do a quick scan which i did and found my computer had several infected files that my macafee was missing.it mght be worth a try, twenty minutes was all it took.

I can strongly recommend ad-aware from Lavasoft (google search adaware there is a free download). It found a lot of malware/spyware that neither Norton or Macafee picked up on.

    I wouldn't!
Windows updates are there for a reason. They do work generally! The option i favour is to notify of updates but only download on my instruction. This means i can check what they want to install and if i want it.

    Yes

After talking with my old man, he told me about a problem update that when installed just reappears to be installed again.

I'd been installing the same update over and over

Opt for a custom install and you can choose to not be notified of it again, problem solved.

    Cheers
