asked a random guy to spot me today on bench and i did 4 reps, then on my 5th rep I struggled slightly about a quarter of the way up. Not only did he just lift the weight up completely for me, but he actually put it back on the rack whilst i was furiously trying to resist. Messed up my whole session, was going for a PB.
Anyone else had this happen to them??
Another good one was I was doing seated barbell shoulder press once, was doing a weight which I could do about 6 reps to failure of. Asked for a random spot and he immediately assisted me on every rep straight from the start, and I ended up doing 14 "reps". Then at the end he was like "you should try raising the weight, that seemed too easy for you"
ARGH!!!
Oh I just remembered another one actually lol. Asked for a random spot on bench but he didn't know what a spot was so I just casually said "just make sure the weight doesn't drop on me..." He helped me unrack the weight then before I'd even brought it down to my chest on the first rep he just walked off lmao. I had to shout him back mid-rep.

Tis bloody annoying when you get a bad spot, I only ever ask people who seem to know what they're doing and even then tell them exactly what I want. I hate it when they hover their hands just over the bar and follow you up and down.... just stand back and wait till i look like i'm about to drop the weight on my face!

I had someone the other day i knew i could do 7 reps but he started helping me on about the 4th all the way up to about 10 then had the cheek to say "it was all you" at the end lol how annoying
ye i will say that in future, i guess i give people too much credit assuming they will know, and I don't want to sound condescending. Screw that in future lol.
I notice most people always say "it was all you" as some sort of motivational ploy, which I guess is kind've nice, but I would really appreciate it more if they just told the truth lol
Suppose if you look at the other side of this debate, they're taking time out to help you. Not getting paid and using up time they set aside for their own workouts.
Maybe be more appreciative even if they don't offer perfect help?
I always say how many reps im going for, and not to touch the bar unless it stops moving completely. That way you dont get a tag team set!
