Read this article on the tube this morning and it left me silently fuming:

A craving for meat is a weighty issue | Metro.co.uk

    Stuff like:

    Quote Quote
'Men in particular are stuck on the idea that you have to load up on protein to get toned,' says Barnouin, who gave up modelling ten years ago to study holistic nutrition. 'But it's a myth.

Protein and carbohydrates have the same amount of calories per gram. However, meat is high in fat and nearly half that fat is saturated.'
This demonstartes that the authors knowledge of nutrition is sorely lacking, especially when paired with:

    Quote Quote
'This will be tough for some guys,' agrees Freedman. 'They are conditioned to think “real men” eat steak and hamburgers but research shows there is a strong correlation between eating meat and certain illnesses.
Which ignores a lot of evidence about what in meat causes those diseases, plus the dangers of following a purely vegan diet as they seem to suggest.

I love the pillock who's commented in the "Your Views" bit:

There are so many other tragic consequences of raising animals for food. Apart from the human health issue there is widespread devastation to entire ecosystems. It takes collossal amounts of water to produce beef, vast amounts of grain that could easily feed the worlds starving people. The land that is used to produce meat is an extremely inefficent way to produce protein. Superior plant protein can be grown using far less land and water. Research has shown that eating meat can cause some of the following diseases:
    • High blood pressure
    • Heart disease
    • Diabetes
    • Stroke
    • Parkinson’s disease
    • Bladder cancer
    • Colon cancer
    • Prostate and ovarian cancer
    • Lung, skin and kidney cancer
    • Breast cancer.
    • Blue tongue disease
    • E coli
    • Salmonella (over 2300 types possible)
    • Bird flu
    • Mad cow dise
Diabetes, bird flu and mad cow disease from eating meat? Wow. I'm surprised AIDS, knock-knees and heavy leg symdrone haven't made the list too.

I want to know who Stan Price is, how much he benched and in what federation. I can't find anything on him...

Rather irritatingly a veggie I know was going on about him and that he's a world champion veggie blah blah, you don't need meat. I have nothing against veggies, infact I admire them for their morals. But it bugs me when they preach to me that I can get all the nutrients I NEED in a veggie diet. Is it true you need to supp with B12 if you're a veggie?

The diabetes especially intrigued me, if I ate steak and eggs everyday I wouldn't be worried about it!

I can't find anything about Stan Price which isn't a pro veg site. Is this one of those myths that becomes true because enough people said it?

I'm going to call BS on Stan Price. I can't find anything concrete on him either. Interestingly, I dug this out on wiki:

Progression of the bench press world record - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It seems a little sparse. I would have thought there would be more entries? Perhaps one of the experts could shed some light. It is possible that this Price fellow might have slipped in between two of the entries there and simply not be mentioned.

oh my god this article is an absolute joke. And it doesn't even stick to its own arguments.

    Quote Quote
how protein can actually make us – gasp! – fat.

It's switched from saying that "protein makes you fat" to "fat makes you fat - meat has a lot of fat - meat has a lot of protein - protein makes you fat"

Stupid, this is where people get their ammunition from when they criticise my "unhealthy, high(ish) fat, high protein diet"

Oh well at least I won't be around much longer to hear these arguments because evidently all the diseases in the world are going to strike me down...

Heh. Me too. Let's see if the moderators let them slip through. I probably could have thought mine through a bit better, but space was limited.
