If you want to save money on training equipment wait until late January/February, there's always a huge influx of it as people renege on their new years resolutions.
Before you splash out all that money on a rack and bench, I'd say to get into the habbit of training for a while first, so many people only last a few weeks and end up putting there stuff on ebay. I'd say build yourself a couple of different weight sandbags, 2 will only cost you about £25. You'll be able to do so many things with a sand bag, I always get people who start training with me to use the sandbags first before I get them into weights as it builds a soild foundation.
I'm not saying don't get a rack etc in the future as I have one myself, I'm just saying get into the habit of training first.

^^ Exactly what I meant, this is the time of year when everyone goes out and buys hundreds of pounds worth of equipment and then sells it within a couple of months. People are much better off building basic strength and seeing if they enjoy training before splashing out. Although I don't mind as it means theres more offers for me in march time![]()
thanks for the concern, but i am getting my stuff probably the 2nd week of january (assuming my bursary comes through), not being rude obviously, but i'm not other people, it'll be money well spent and eventually my ripped body shots will be posted on this site :P
i;m sure it says on the site, but to determine my starting weights on the 5x5.. do i just keep adding weights until i can't do 5x5 anymore??
If your new to lifting start as prescribed - with the bar only for squats - it will get difficult enough fast enough - that's for sure. The main reason being you can focus on form while not crushing yourself with the bar, here's a little rhyme I just thought up...
Start light, get the form right.
That's good to hear matey. I train a few people and I just find if I get them training with bodyweight and sandbags first it gives them a good foundation to build off.
Best advice about the equipment is to just shop around, keep checking ebay as there can be some real bargains to be had. Also email the companies and ask them what the best price they can do is, you'll be surprised how much something as simple as that can save you.
aite solid tips, will do![]()
