Well I've not been on here for a while as i haven't been home in a couple of months and my internet connection at my work acommodation is dead. But despite that I was doing really well with my training and keeping my weight down until I broke my foot 3 weeks ago.

I was shocked yesterday to find that I have put a lot of weight on in 3 weeks (possibly 3/4kg maybe more) and I'm annoyed. I guess all the Christmas food hasn't helped at all with my activity levels being so low. And I got so much chocolate and sweets it's unreal even after I asked everyone not to give it to me.

It looks like I'm going to be stuck like this for a few weeks yet sitting on the sofa and boredom makes me eat! Grrrr.

I have been a little weary about going out as it has been so icy here over the festive period. Funnily enough crutches don't like the ice.

So there you go rant over. Can you tell I'm annoyed? Can't wait to get out running andback in the gym. I feel so stagnant.

It's not falling down that's important, it's getting back up afterwards.

Keep your chin up and get back to it when you can, if you let yourself get in a bad psychological state it will only make the problem worse, it's not possible to go through life without making errors.

Give any remaining chocolate away, trying to keep it under control can be a mental drain.
Buy only healthy, low calorie density food from now on you'll soon get back to where you were.......see the christmas period as a re-feed and don't feel to bad about it.

There is evidence that training the unknackered lower limb using isometric exercises can have a good rehabilitation effect on the knackered leg .

Try sitting on the floor with your legs out , point your toes backwards on the good leg , tense the quad and lift your leg off the floor about 6 inches . Drop the foot (not all the way to the floor , about an inch off) and repeat until it burns . You may also be able to do some dips on the edge of a table .

Ditch the gooey sweets !!! They may be nice but Mr Quality Street is laughing all the way to Barbados .

If it's any consolation, I managed to put on 10lbs in December and am the heaviest I've ever been. I estimate I'm about the same level of fat as this time last year, but 5lbs heavier, so I'm hoping that extra 5lbs is actually muscle. Would be nice, eh?

Anyway, January is a time for kicking yourself up the bum and getting back on the wagon. S'what I'm doing. Lost 2lbs thus far, and the rest will come I'm sure.

The foot thing is a pain (well, literally) - got a food issue myself that's stopped me from running. I have an accessory navicular (an extra bone in my right foot) which has never caused me any trouble in the past, but I sprained my ankle badly in September and although the ankle's pretty good now, I've considerable discomfort from the accessory navicular and it won't go away. Net result is no running (and hill sprints) for me, although I've been able to push iron (however I've also got other injuries which are hampering me - really I should be taken out back and shot).

Is there anything else you can be doing - swimming maybe or something else that doesn't involve stressing your foot?

Knowing how to do something is half the battle, you know what to do to get back to where you were (and beyond) so heal the foot and use the set-back to get motivated to go sort it out!

Training the other leg in the meantime is a great idea, as is doing any upper body work that's safe/comfortable for your injury.

    Good luck!

Take this time to relax and rest, you might wish you did some time in the near future when you return to training.

Thanks guys. I just feel really frustrated at the moment. Especially as I'm usually so active with work as well. They laughed at me and sent me on sick leave.

I was taking myself out for hobbles on my crutches over to the beach with the dog but crutches don't go too well with the snow and ice so I'm a bit housebound as well right now. I guess the rest will do my body good.

Thanks Indescreet you make me feel a little better (I shouldn't run full stop really as I have boogered knees, but it's the only thing that keeps me really fit and helps me lose/ maintain my weight)). I feel like I should be put down as well right now. I guess it only makes us stronger huh?

I've got an appointment with the orthapedic surgeon on the 19th so I'll know if things are healing properly then. Lets hope so.

Until then must keep away from the chocolate. I made my hubby eat a Baileys truffle chocolate bar yesterday after he opened it and tried palming it off onto me. He's a bad man!

RB is spot on there. The test of true grit, determination and will to succeed comes from the ability to know that when it's all stacked against you, only you can overcome it.

Rest, get your health back up and find ways to motivate yourself hun, whether or not it's a physical or mental challenge, find something new that you can do and learn. Push yourself to find something that you can better yourself at doing. Even something like knitting (I forgot my hat today and it was -11 degress... Brrrr!!!) or researching something that's interested you for a long time but you've never really got around to finding out.

Any proactive approach towards something will keep you occupied and keep that feel-good feeling you get after achieving something. I get that feeling after lifting heavy, making things for people (cooking food, fitting a kitchen, fixing cars, etc) and just keeping on top of things.

This approach helped me out so much when I was in between jobs (7 months), I almost slid into a negative state of mind but my partner at the time encouraged me. By the time it came for job interviews I was in a good place mentally because gone was the "woe is me" attitude for not being able to get a job, instead I had a drive and passion behind me, and I genuinely believed it was because I kept proactive, learnt new skills and bettered myself during the time off.

I guess all I need to say is: Take it slow, let your body do its thing and find something you want to leanr or do and put in place the steps to do it! Before you know it you'll be back on your foot/feet (I know, I know...) with a vengance!

Thanks guys. I know it's the getting back up again that counts. It's the snow thats really getting me down I can't even leave the house unless my hubby takes me in the car to somewhere indoors or doesn't have snow/ice on the ground.

I have decided to go back to work tomorrow and see if they want me in or not. First day back after Christmas leave for everyone. If they want me in then at least I'll be up and about and not festering in front on my Xbox. I can concentrate on getting myself back into a routine and my diet back on track.

Ho hum. never thought I'd say it but I'm looking forward to going in to work tomorrow. just for the change of scenery. Lets see how it goes.
