To be honest, I get more miffed about the fact that, people who actually try and tread the right path in life get nothing back for it, other than a personal goal etc.
It is disjointed.
Apologies that I missed it from my original posting; I was not directing it as EVERYONE - just those who choose not to exercise when they can do.
I have a very good example of why it bothers me...........
I know several medical professionals who work repairing hips, knees, shoulders etc. Years ago, someone who was overweight (and not through a medical condition) would be required to lose weight prior to surgery on their damaged hip, knee etc.
Now, they cannot discriminate against them, which telling them to lose weight is apparently, so, they repair the thing and that person ends up back there 6 months later, having damaged the same, or another joint.
I agree people who need it because their situation cannot be changed is fair enough - but those that can? Sorry, I don't buy into it.

I think it's really ignorant to assume that overweight people are lazy. I've been overweight, even last year I was overweight even though I was training 3 times a week. A lot of people, especially women, have psychological reasons for why they overeat - it's not just about being lazy. I suffer with binge eating and have done since my late teens early twenties. I don't know why I do it and I'm working really hard to stop doing it.
I watch The Biggest Loser (for entertainment and hot Jillan Michaels action - not diet/fitness advice) and when you hear about what some people have been through, you can begin to understand why people turn to food for comfort.
However, it is for those reasons that I actually don't agree with gastric banding, prescription diet pills, etc - the reasons for turning to food in the first place are not addressed so IMO, counselling should be the first option before anything else.
You get out of it a fit, strong and healthy body - at least, that's why I train and try to eat right
And your post about hip and knee operations being done instead of people losing weight - this is NOT true. I work in the NHS and I know people have been sent away to lose weight before surgery will be performed. Not only because in most cases it will actually reduce the need for surgery but because an extremely obese person is at greater risk.
Problem is though the 'lazy' people who want the gastic band or whatever will be told they are not big enough to have it so instead of going away and shedding the weight through exercise and diet most of them will tuck into a family bucket at kfc and take the easy route so they can have the operation
Stu
My personal opinion is that anyone who has damaged themselves through stupidity or general lack of caring about themselves should not be treated for any illness that the stupidity has caused.
For example:
Fat people should not get gastric band operations
Smokers should not be entitled to lung transplants
Alcoholics/drug abusers should not be given liver transplants
Why should the taxpayer foot the bill for someone neglecting their body? These people should be forced to take out private health insurance.

How very ignorant and old testament of you!
People do not always neglect their bodies consciously, but you're obviously too close-minded to work that one out. Did you even read the thread or just see the first post and figure you'd post that? I would like to hear your opinions on what those that disagree have said.
Excellent point. Although I do agree with the smoking and alcohol parts. They are conscious decisions to ingest poisons given all of the research available.. As with anything, fine in moderation, but not to be abused.
The whole fat thing cannot be included in a 'zero tolerance' policy, simply because enough is not widely known by the public to make the correct decisions. Alcohol and smoking, the information is there.
