Direct line for me, who give second drivers no claims bonus however I think this is only with direct line and dont count for anything with any other insurers, I crashed a brand new car 7 days after my test think I was with aviva back then but after that direct line were the only reasonable price I could find.

Insurance is terrible for new drivers, no real way around in ( 'fronting' on parents insurance gets picked up easily now)

My first car was a 2 litre turbo volvo when i was 18, that was £900.........god knows how i managed that, now an 18 year old would be charged like £2500, i'm glad i'm not that young a driver now!

Bit of a bump; but my car insurance is due at the end of this month.

I have had some real issues with tesco the last two years with foul play on their part and ignoring of complaints. Firstly they knocked down my insurance claim from fully comprehensive to 3rd party fire and theft; even though I had already legally bought the insurance with the stated claims. Then they lied to me about building a no claims discount; and instead the first year was "named driver" discount which is worthless. They then tried to increase my payment by stating I had lied on the forms.

I got my papers through today with their new quote... £1495.... Last year it was £1200. So does a perfect year of driving not count for anything? The year before that it was also cheaper than £1200! I stuck with them as they were still the cheapest.

I rang them up and they were insisting that is the cheapest quote I would find. I shopped around and found a better one.... £640 from direct line.

Moral of the story is; Do NOT buy insurance from tesco car insurance. Awful company.

I have a 1.4l Ford Fiesta im 19 now but when i passed at 17 i went with Red Star Direct for 1.7k a year down to 1.2k now if thats any help. Red Star act as a broker and find the best deal, worked for me might be worth having a look at.

Get a parent or someone as the main driver and have him as a named driver. Thats what we did and it was 1250 a year for me and my mum on a 1.6 Renault scenic with her as the main driver. thats with aviva. they asked how often i would be using it and because i only use it a few times a week for training or whatever it was cheaper too.

Bell were the best for me.

My first 4 years I was named driver on my mams car, a 1.1 fiesta and it was about £400 a year with £500 excess. When I bought my own car 1.8 Civic Type S it shot up to £1000 becuase I don't have any no claims bonus, dropped down to £600 this year with 1 years no claims.

Best thing to do is just whack loads of people on as named drivers, mam, dad, sister etc, Still drops my price down now even though I'm 25 soon and have held my license for 6 years. Also, I think saying your a student puts the premium up. If you have a part time job just put that occupation down instead. You need to be careful with these sorts of things though as they may try to avoid paying out if they catch you, same as being the named driver if you are the owner.

And the police and government wonder why so many people drive without insurance. Inssurance companies are pricing normal people out of car ownership.
And its only going to get worse.

I wrote my car off (Nissan Micra Si 1.3 T reg) last Friday after i pulled out of a minor side road onto a high street and got hit by a bus. I managed to get £155 scrap for it.

I am being held liable, even though i think both parties were to blame (I personally feel the bus was speeding - when i slowed down at the junction and looked right the bus was about 60 meters away, looked left it was clear, pulled out and then BANG the bus ploughed through the front of my car).

I've been driving for about 4 and a 1/2 years now, but i didn't protect my 2 years no claims i had.

I am absolutely dreading to find out what my insurance premium will be after i have forked out for another motor (i was 3rd party fire and theft so i wont get anything for it) because its the 2nd accident i've had in the last 3 years. I'm hoping by getting a smaller engine motor (i.e a 1 litre), and the fact i am moving to a better neighbourhood that has a garage for leaving the car in overnight, it will help a bit.
