So, as many know, I'm in Mexico but soon to move to Brasil and orignally from the UK.

I have managed to get iplayer, 4od etc working on my computer but skyplayer is the elusive one. I currently pay my UK license fee and pay for sky but I am able to watch it. I have looked at slingbox but my net connection in West West is not good enough.

Therefore, the only option I can think of is a VPN. I have taken out a few trials but so far, everyone has been too slow to stream video.
Has anyone had experience with VPN and are there any suggestions as to which I should give a go?

Depends on the internet connection at the host computer. Have you tried accessing the sky site by proxy?

I did a while ago and nothing worked. Maybe I did not set it up correctly.

I have been looking at strongvpn as it seems highly recommended on the net and has 7 day guarantee.

So, i have done a little more research and the reason i think i couldnt get skyplayer working with a proxy is thae way that shyplayer works. its done based on a browser and therefore, the masking effect of a proxy will not work.
Therefore, Im back to the idea of a VPN.

    Any recommendations?

VPN IP Tunneling - VPN UK, USA, Spain, Canada, Germany, Ireland, Netherlands, Switzerland VPN services. is what I used to use when flying for work.

Now I run my own dedicated VPN server at home. Decent enough with a 100/100Mbit connection.

Pretty good to be honest, could max out the mobile broadband modem in my laptop. Streaming things like SkyPlayer, BBC iPlayer, ITV player was a breeze.

This was a couple of years ago, not sure how it is now but its quite cheap so give it a go for a month.

Well I can use something called expatshield for everything but skyplayer and I believe the only way around this is a vpn. But I really want to get skyplayer working so I will give this a go in a few weeks when I get internet sorted in Brasil.
    Cheers

I think your evaluation of why skyplayer does not work for you is correct, i.e., it is doing a client side check of your location rather than a server side check. Something you might try is VNC or remote desktoping. Basically, set up a computer in the UK, and then create a remote desktop connection to the remote computer in the UK. Performance on these things used to be shocking, but with the rise in demand for virtualization technologies, the streaming of changes in graphics on the remote desktop is a lot better now.

EDIT: Thinking about it, unless you got a beefy upload speed on your broadband connection you might struggle - would prob explain why slingbox didn't work too well for you. Could be worth looking into an ISP that provides a fast upload speed as well as a fast download speed.

Unfortuantely, there are no high speed providers for my parents home yet. I could potentially set up a spare pc in my flat in brimingham but surely getting a reasonably priced vpn would be cheaper.
If I am unable to get a quick enough vpm though, i will definitly look into a vnc.
