got tins and longlife foods that will never get used and rather than wasting them id like to donate them

Salvation Army were my first thought too, they do a lot of good work and would welcome a donation of food.
your local church, my father does that they help familys in finacial trouble by handing in there unwanted food items it rily adds up

I was going to suggest this same thing but I wasn't sure if they collected all year round. I know the last time I was in church there were tins piled high at the far end, but that was close to harvest time...
If the OP's church will take them, then yeah I agree that it's a fantastic place to take them.
I actually got speaking to a neighbour, and I asked her where to take them, and she said she would have them.
so I just gave them to her.....at least someone got the use of them, thats all i wanted
