    Hi everyone,

My misses loves me that much she decided to give me a sore throat, cold, cough etc.

Now I don't know what all your thoughts are about training with man flu but my gym instructor said rest and come back when your better as your immune system is low at this point and there's no point in training.

So do I man up and still train or wait a week or two until I've recovered?

In my personal experience it's not worth pushing through it and 'manning up' cos I always end up training badly for a few weeks after I do that. Instead if I just rest for a few days I find i get over it much quicker and back to full strenght within a week. But it all depends on the individual I suppose.

Don't train whilst you're ill, take the opportunity to get some much needed rest.

Nobody likes taking time off from training, but it really is for the best if you're ill.

Yep.... Flu should put you down for 10 anyway.... don't worry about missing anything. I read a good thing the other day...its not about what you do sometimes its about what you do most of the time

i was given tonsilitus by a certain somebody, i was told to man up and go to the gym, so i did. next day felt worse, then the pain became unbareable then the pain was so strong not even morphine would numb it. then the infection spread to my glands and i had glandularfever and tonsilitus. next day it spread to my uvula (the dangley bit at the back of the throat) so i had tonsilitus glandular fever and uvulaitus the uvula tripled in size and i was chocking on it. then 1 tonsil swolled up so much it spread acroos the back of the throat to the point it was almost touching the other one. i was almost chocking to death. doctor said if i came in to the surgery a day later i would of been hospitalised on a drip. i had to take 1000mg of antibiotics a day for 10 days. and at no point am i exagerating with this story, so take it from me dont ignore what you feel is a humble virus, because in my experience putting stress on the body helps it mutate into something severe. (that kind of thing has happened to me more than once by training through illness).

    Ben that sounds nasty!!

I tried it before Christmas. Went to the gym when I was ill, ended up getting even worse and losing 4kg over the Xmas period. I'm not saying this was purely because I tried to go gym, but you can imagine the amounts of bacteria and viral stuff hanging around at the gym over the colder months begging for victims to walk in the door

Thanks everyone, that's really bad Ben, I'll take your word for it though.
Slowly recovering, just got bad sinus pains and headaches so think I'll wait till mid next week to see how I am.
