    Hi everyone

I've been having trouble sleeping on thursday nights because i work untill 11:00PM and then by the time i've had my supper, showered etc it's 1:30-2:00. I still feel wide awake, which isn't good cos i'm up 7:00AM Friday I don't want to have a couple of beers because i've not any alcohol in the week since newyear's day and it would effect my friday night's workout, as well as lowering test.
I've had a look on the net at Nytol and it state to take no longer than 2 weeks, which can't be good? I'm only wanting one night's dose once per week. does anyone know anything about the ingredients and the effects, especially on test and training and general health?

    thanks mat

They have served me well. but i would cycle them a couple of days at a time. Their effect wears off with continued use. as the box says "if symptoms persist consult your GP"

Sleep in itself is addictive so be careful

Firstly, alcohol's crap as a sleep aid (it disrupts sleep, causes nasty symptoms like hangovers, is addictive, has lots of 'empty' calories, etc.) If you want to drink, drink but don't see it as a good way to get to sleep.

'best advice' for dealing with insomnia is still just the obvious things like making sure your bedroom is dark, quiet, war comfortable etc. (and, if you want, a comfy blanky ) You might find that going through some relaxation exercises when you go to bed helps you to sleep (I listen to a relaxation MP3 when I'm struggling to get to sleep).

If you're thinking of taking sleeping pills, there's a pretty exhaustative list of the types here - http://www.mind.org.uk/Information/B...epingpills.htm Not sure what the dose is in nytol, but this type of antihistamine could last longer than the 5hrs or so you've got to sleep that night - you might want to be a bit cautious, esp if you'll be driving or working machinary the next day (sorry if this is stating the obvious). Time-allowing, if you want sleeping pills you might do best to speak to your GP - to see what they suggest for occasional use.

Alcohol is probably the worst thing for sleep. It strongly disrupts REM cycles and can leave you (obviously) with a nasty hangover in the morning.
