I went down to the gym for the first time ever day before yesterday.

I had actually sneaked in and was just trialing it before committing to a membership.

As i didn't have time for a full workout in case i got caught, i just tried my maxes on the big 3.

Bearing in mind, i haven't worked out at all in 4 months, and when i was working out I was doing it in bedroom. My workout consisted of Box Pistols, barbell rows, pulls ups and overhead presses. I didn't have a squat rack to squat, not enough weights to dead, and no bench to bench press.

This was near enough to the first time i was doing these exercises.

    I'm 5'10 and 60kg, tiny i know.

    My 1 rep maxes were:

    Bench - 40kg = 0.66x BW
    Squat - 50kg = 0.83x BW (I squat way below parallel)
    Deadlift - 90kg = 1.5 BW

I got pretty demotivated after these results, but i stuck my goals anyway as strength loss was inevitable.

My goals are for a 1.25xBW bench, 1.5xBW squat and 2.5xBW deadlift. I would also like a 1xBW overhead press, the max i have done is 47.5kg.

How long would you think this would take using ripptoes routine.

    Cheers.

That's a very difficult question to answer. If you eat well and train hard and follow a good program then you should see good progress. I reckon you'd get the bench and squat first, possibly within 12-18 months. However, a 2.5x BW deadlift isn't a common thing.

I would set my sights on an 80kg bench press, 90kg squat, and 120kg deadlift. I would also aim to increase my bodyweight and forget about trying to lift X times BW for now just concentrate on getting bigger and stronger.

The answer to that is all down to you, train hard, eat big, keep the dedication and you may well suprise yourself. Realistically though, you shouldn't bother aiming for BW maxes, not yet.. Martin gave examples above, scale them up/down to suit your (realistic)ambitions.

Give yourself shorter-term goals to stay motivated and before you know it you'll have surpassed your initial goals if you eat well and train hard

    Good luck.
