I need to start focussing more on my tricep strength to continue to bring up my bench.

I gave floor press a go for the first time the other day and liked it. I have used close grip work before and found it ok. I was just wondering whether for a raw lifter it was as beneficial as a close grip bench as it's only a partial ROM. I just figured it would be better as it takes out leg drive etc which are present when pressing on a bench but just wanted some opinions.

    Cheers, Jay

incorporate both of them, aswell as board presses

you'll get best results cycling them all

I like board pressing best though, can really focus on certain sticking points

Your going raw, right? Unless you have shoulder ROM problems, i would go with close grip, which is going to work your triceps and chest through a full ROM. Floor press will give you some carry over to raw bench, but it is mainly a lockout exercise that is used by alot of shirted benchers. Floor press will hit the triceps hard, but so will close grip

thanks to you all. informative stuff, think i'll focus more on close grip full ROM in my next cycle then if it's more likely to improve my overall bench.

    Cheers, Jay
