Anyone tried these out before? They seem a very common lift amongst olympic lifters however i would have thought the rotator cuff would be in an awkward position for the lift? Or is this only with a behind the neck press?

I was thinking of trying them in my next cycle to help with the overhead stuff.

Have you considered trying snatch balance?

It should alleviate concerns of damaging the rotator cuff.

I think they're brilliant if you're into olympic lifting and your overhead is the weak part of your squat snatch.

Apparently the risk of shoulder impingement is minimised because the bottom portion of the movement is almost entirely leg drive.
    Has your progress stalled lately?

I do them on a regular basis. The whole RC nonsense is due to most people not taking care of shoulder flexibility - and as it is a jerk the shoulders play a tiny part of the movement.

They're a nice exercise IME- A bit odd when you first try them, but you can get such a solid leg drive and the bar just falls into the right position

    Here's doing Koklayev them...with superb technique :

You can't out train a bad diet. Simple.

Its not really superb for a weightlifter, he hardly drops under the weight at all - BUT it is freakish, given his 6'4 frame how much drive he can give the bar to allow such a small drop to catch it at the end of gorilla length arms!
Awesome lifting from an awesome lifter!

Thats what I was going to say!! Mikhail koklyaev is my favourite lifter and his technique for all his lifts is spectacular. 7 times russian lifting champion. Its a shame he cant compete in weightlifting at the olympics. With a 215kg snatch I think he could bring home the gold. Not sure what his clean and jerk is like at the moment.
