i know a lot of people like gymnast rings, but was just wondering where people set them up? i'm wanting them for core strength mainly, i don't have a garage or strong walls or doorways to set them up, can you easily attach them to say a pulley machine with the usual pull up\chin up attachment in the middle?

had a quick google and these came up, if anyone knows of better or cheaper version and tips on where to set them up, please share.

I have the EXF Rings and they are great - really easy to set up in seconds on any kind of frame or pullup bar, and solid. They are not cheap, but when you are swinging around on rings you want something decent. One of my best equipment purchases.

I got some awesome upper body development when using rings 3 times a week a few months back, but then my ego got the better of me and i tried a move on the rings called a Korean Dip and nearly dislocated my shoulder. I am currently bulding up my floor and bar based calisthenics to get my shoulder stability back, andi will re-start ring work in a few months time.

I got mine from Fitstream and use them on a doorway pull up bar....so far, easy to set up and no probelms. Started ring using them last week - will be using them properly in the next 1-2 weeks. So far, they are awesome. Definitely not going back to benching now I can do ring dips, push ups and flies for chest. Tried some core stuff as well, fallouts, planks etc. Cannot weight to start adding a weighted vest.

Took me a week of holding myself at the top of a dip for 30 second sets until I felt ready to try full dips. Tried them last night and got 5 reps and the biggest chest pump imaginable.

HTTK - what sort of DOMS did you get when you started ring dips? Im not sure if its because im coming back from an injury lay off and not used to training but I've got the worst doms in my shoulder blades/upper back today! Like, I'e never felt doms quite like it to be honest.

Pec and rhomboid DOMS was intense first few weeks of chest work on rings. First time i did a back lever i felt like i was tearing my chest apart!

Sorry to bring up an old thread, I thought it might be better than starting a new thread. I've just bought some rings and wondered whether anyone knew of any good resources for beginners? Basic moves/ holds and techniques etc in books, web etc. Any help appreciated as there isn't too much on here and I've not found much online that is easily useable. I suppose I'm kinda looking for starting strength equivalent for rings.

People have often said "prepare to be humbled" and they are right. I cannot believe how difficult these things are. Even a basic hold has given me a feeling in the pecs that I've never managed to get from pressing... whether that results in growth is another matter!

    Thanks, Eddie

I would suggest starting with hold positions to really get them stabilisers ready. Holding at the top position of dips , bottom and top positions of pull ups and top position of chest press/flies and bottom if your strong enough!

rings are great, pull ups and chin ups on rings are just that little bit harder thana bar! i use the ones in the Gym Room at my Uni so they are susspended from the celling, but ive seen dudes do stuff in the squat rack.

if you are struggling for inspiration on what to do, look at some crossfit videos or the beginers section of the gymnastics code of points
    also this site is good

Best piece of equipment I ever bought!! Shoulders feel amazing since I switched to ring dips and chins, never ever going back to parralel and straight bar's.

Holds arent something you can just jump into, you need to do a lot of ground work first or you'll risk developing things like tendonitis/osis. I'd start with ring chins and dips to get used to the unstable feel and then go into doing things like german hangs, tuck holds and floor work like straight arm planks, l sits etc.

Prepare for your upper body to explode in size with ring dips!!
