Shot Put

I had no idea where else to put this, so here it is.
I've been entered for the shot put on founders day. I have never, ever done it before in my life, and considering it'l be infront of a few hundred school kids, i fancy not showing myself up too much . I'm pretty sure we don't have to sweep [the circular motion], a "glide" is apparrently what i'm supposed to be doing. Any pointers?
