Hi guys, a bit of advice from anyone who competes in powerlifting.

I was talking to the owner of the gym i go to the other day regards what would be a "good" bench press, deadlift and squat compared to body weight.
Now i don't train for power lifting, i train mainly for overall strength and fitness....in fact probably quite military style [ been doing Chris Ryans program for a while....not been able to post updates due to lack of internet at home since moving!]

Anyway, I weigh 66kg, approx, but can bench near on 75kg [ 9kg off qualifying for british championship bench press for my weight catagory i believe] and can dead lift about 125kg. Now i don't usually do squats with free weights, so i am not sure on what I can achieve, bit if it's say 75% of using a "machine" it would be about 100kg.

Now the guy was saying with some targetted training over the next 12 months i could be looking at competing in the under 67.5kg class. I could probably lose about 1st body fat, which obviously gives me some room for putting on weight in muscle.

Now, I have no idea what kinda weights people would be lifting in these competitions, and really I only play to win, so wouldnt even enter "just for fun"

So whats your advice, and experience of the lower weight classes; what kinda weights do i need to be lifting in total, and how long would it take to get to it?

    Cheers guys.

by the sounds of it you have the potential to do very well. theyre already decent lifts you've got and your light as a feather.

it might be worth dropping the fat if you think you can, then slowly bulking with the aim of strength in mind. oh and get squatting, they are your priority lift imo.

I'm "light" because i am 5ft 4, but i am pretty solid/ strong, always have been.
If i was a boxer, i would need to be a stone lighter to compete, otherwise i would get killed by much larger guys, in my weight catagory!

Thought I would add to this thread. I have just got back fromn the gym a short while ago, and have just had a PB Bench Press of 80KG. Went to 85KG but failled. Hopefully by the end of the month i will be at 85KG, as it wasnt far off. This will be a Qualifying weight for The British bench press championships for my weight class..... Think i might just concentrate on this disapline, rather than powerlifting as a whole.

Are you guys giving your total weights pressed, including olympic bar?
Again, just to compare i suppose. I weigh 82kg at 5'9" and max out on the bench at 115kg including bar.
