Well now then, after i was looking for some meals and foods to have in my car during the day whilst I am working, I have now come across this lovely sounding recipe and thinking!! very good idea to have a batch or 2 made up and available for emergency measures...

    Couple of questions:-

Just ordinary Scottish porridge oats? (Sainsbury's Whole Rolled Porridge Oats - ok?)

Can I sub the raisins or sultanas for other fruits? such as strawberries, raspberries, etc?

They're the only ones to have are they not?

All other Porridge Oats are just imitating being oats!! ha ha..

I swear by these Oats - none others compare, so I will be using them in my baking this weekend.

I once tried making some cereal bars using museli, they weren't to bad, but do you recon this recipe would work subbing some oats for museli? just to add different texture and flavours.

yup, any oats should be fine as long as its not too fine.

and yup, you can substitute other types of fruit. i used apple and currants as that was what i had in the cupboards.

as LH said, do a half batch, so using half the amounts in my recipe and swapping the fruit for ones of your own choice.

remember the mixture will appear more runny before baking, no need to worry as when its baking the oats will absorb more.

you could also try it at a lower heat but for longer.

haven't tried it yet but i think if its at a lower heat, the flapjack will cook slower and probably end up more moister as more of hte juice will be absorbed and not evapourated.
