I'm currently taking both brown rice and pea protein supplements along with creatine mono and some bcaa's, but my question for you knowledgeable lot (and I feel silly for asking this) is...

What's the quickest release protein and therefore best post workout supp for vegans? and what would be best before bed etc?

Also, why is the hemp protein so damned expensive sompared to rice & peas? whats the main benefit of that over others?

Although not protein BCAA's are part of the Amino Acid profile that some proteins are broken down to (bare in mind that different protein sources have different amounts of Amino's in them) so taking these post workout would be the quickest absorbtion of amino's.

What you may find benficial in your case is also EAA (Essential Amino Acids), which MP also sell and this along with BCAA's would provide a broader range of Amino's.

I currently take bcaa's just before a workout, would you say to keep doing that, and find something else for straight after/just take them after/take them before and after (which is gonna get costly!)...

I would say to take the costly route unfortunately and take both before and after.

Can you not use Soya? It has the best amino profile.

Hemp is expensive because it is not so widely grown as other protein sources. I also rather fancy that it tends to spoil a bit quicker because of its oil content - so special packaging is used.

I'm vegan too xRichx, but honestly I wouldn't worry hugely about which is the quickest released etc. Here are my experiences of various proteins:

Pea - this is what I use generally. It is cheap, cheerful and tastes like deep fried ass. I use bananas, cocoa powder and soya milk to mask the flavour (all blended). I have gained alot of weight and strength on pea protein.

Rice - could never get into it. Hate the taste, and it does not mix well. It is the cheapest though.

Soya - best tasting in my opinion. I also feel that I have perhaps had the best results with soya, but it is more expensive, so I don't bother with it any more. Plus, when I had great results with it, I was still in newbie territory, so it could have just been that.

Hemp - only tried this a few times. Not a bad taste, but best mixed with other proteins. Certainly the healthiest, in terms of having very high omega 3 content.
