L-Tryptophan is good- have a teaspoon before bed.

Melatonin is effective for a few consecutive nights, but go for a timed release capsule at a low dose.

Camomile tea two hours pre bed should help. Make this the last drink of the day so you don't get up needing the toilet in the middle of the night. A sip of water to wash down the L-Tryptophan doesn't count.

Try to get as little exposure to bright lights as possible for about an hour pre bed.

Read for about 20-30 minutes before attempting to get to sleep, by the light of a dull energy saving bulb.

The absolute last thing you should do before going to bed is to go to the toilet.

Turn off any appliances in your bedroom that might make noise.light. Ideally, have no electrical appliances in your bedroom.

That's right, Lion- there's nothing worse than lying down and getting comfortable and realising you need to go.

"The absolute last thing you should do before going to bed is to go to the toilet."

This is a double entendre of sorts, thank you LH for the clarification.

Agree with above, I have found Taurine is great for a more consistant sleep.

Taurine does indeed work well. In fact, I can't take taurine for anything sports related because it makes me crash into sleep without fail. Tryptophan is great aswel, which is why eating pasta before bed makes you sleepy. Pasta contains relatively high levels of tryptophan but it's high carb content causes an insulin release that removes all of the other amino acids from the blood, leaving tryptophan unchallenged to cross the blood brain barrier.
