I seem to be quite carb intolerant, but having been on a a low carb diet I have moved onto ultrafine oats in the morning (which i'm not sure is a good idea).

However I am looking to take a carb post workout after a heavy lifting session, but which is the best for me in terms of lower GI/GL and absorbtion and also being complex ?

I have some free waxy maize starch given to me which I might try soon.

I hope to mix the carb with a whey drink after a session.

    Thanks.

What makes you think you are carb intolerant?

Do you know what type of carb rich foods tend to not cause problems?

I didn't want to ask, but I'm going to. Have you actually been diagnosed with anything? If not, I'd strongly suggest seeing your GP. It can be dangerous to 'think' you have a specific problem, especially when these kind of symptoms are common to so many other conditions.

Carbohydrate intolerance is different to a sensitivity. Intolerance would suggest symptoms such as diarrhoea, maybe vomiting after a meal containing carbohydrate, it's to do with an inability to digest the sugars. A sensitivity is different, it may affect your blood sugar, and/or you may get very fatigued and suffer varying degrees of brain fog after a carb meal. A sensitivity is hard to diagnose, the symptoms are common to many other conditions and blood tests give very little to go on.

If it's fatigue and brain fog you're experiencing after a carbohydrate meal, then the first thing you want to do is cut portion size (with regards to carbohydrate) to a very small quantity. If your blood sugar is affected then you'll also want to cut out simple sugars, and eat fibre with every meal if you can manage it (don't exceed the 35g mark though, you can actually eat too much fibre).

Again if it's a sensitivity you have, you'll find that certain types of carb foods will be more tolerable than others. As for which is more tolerable, you'll need to experiment with your diet and find what's right for you personally.

I only know from my own experience, so again I'd strongly suggest you see a GP.

To answer your original question, maybe try a small quantity of something like oats.

If I eat carbs I put on lots of weight, when I stop I lose weight. When I have been going for a period of low carbs if I take more than 40g of carbs I will fall into a deep sleep and it will take me a week to tolerate complex carbs and get used to them.

Since I live with my dad and he cooks the food mostly, we eat the same meals, but i've had to stop because he puts no weight on while I put loads eating the same stuff (he tend to eat a lot of home baked stuff, pastas and potato). I dont even eat badly at all, people would think I eat 3 times a day in mcdonalds or a fish and chip shop.

So for me, taking the right carbs is important. At the moment I am off low carbs and eating complex carbs and low GI/GL. And at the moment I am taking Ultrafine oats with whey in the morning.

    Thanks.

It could be more of a sensitivity, it doesn't sound like an intolerance. Still check with the GP so other things can be ruled out, they'll probably order blood tests including various hormone levels.

Personally I think it's up to you to find what carbs you can tolerate better, everyone is different.

Do you have a rough idea of which foods make you fall asleep?
