    Hi -

I weigh 13 stone (height 170cm roughly) , and am 17 years old - I'm not sure if that is a healthy or unhealthy BMI but I know I'm really overweight; I have been overweight for years, and despite trying to get fit several times over the past couple of years I haven't made any progress, and in fact, over the past year I've put on an extra stone of weight, although have had no height increase. The worst thing is the "man boobs" I have. I want to sort out my image!

Anyway, I have a home gym with a treadmill and set of weights. I've been doing HIIT for 25 minutes on the treadmill for the past few days, and want to start doing some weights too (I have no idea what to do with them, but will probably post a new thread on that in a few days!), but I know my diet also needs sorting out. I'm an Hindu vegetarian, and my diet really lacks protein. I want to start taking protein shakes once a day to increase this, and was hoping for some advice on which protein shake I could get?

I've had a look on your site, and there are so many, and I'm really confused as to which I should get?

Someone recommended Impact Blend, but then I don't see the difference between that and Impact Whey Isolate, and Impact Whey Protein, but they all have big price differences!

    Thanks

Hello Buddy and welcome to the forum.

Firstly theres a search function on the top right hand side of this page Id recommend you take some time and have a quick browse as theres lot of information on here and most of your questions have been asked before.

Impact Whey and whey isolate are very similar. Isolate is just impact with a bit more filtering, more suitable if you are lactose intolerant.

Starting a weight training programme is a very good idea, have a look through the training section of the forum theres loads of different routines around. Id recommend that you concentrate on doing compound exercises (exercises that use multiple muscle such as squats, deadlifts, benchpress etc) as these will burn more calories than isolation exercises. They also increase your Metabolism so that you are burning a higher number of calories after you have finished exercising. Make sure you take time to learn the proper techniques and then once you know what you are doing start increasing the weight so that you are constantly pushign yourself. I find keeping a journal of what exercises you do, weights and reps a good way to keep myself motivated as i know im making progress.

Your diet will be the most important if you want to achieve your goals. Keep track of what you eat by counting calories, avoid unhealthly foods and eat lots of fruit and veg to help you feel full. A quick search on google will bring up loads of foods that are high in protein for vegetarians. Also dont be tempted to drop calories too low as this will destroy your Metabolism as your body will enter starvation mode.

Good luck with your goals, maybe start a journal on here so that you can keep track of your progress. Theres loads of people on here that are full of usefull information and will help you out when you need it adn help keep you motivated.

Okay, going to buy Impact Blend. It says that one portion, is one scoop of 25g, but I was wondering how I can measure this correctly? The only scoops they sell on the myprotein website are 5cc and 70cc?
