I was just wondering if anyone knows if DMAE is a 'buzzy' supplement like caffeine can be. Or gentle like Taurine (well Taurine is non-buzzy, yet effective on me).

    Thanks

I have been using it and can report that its the type of supplement that you don't feel working at all.

It is supposed to enhance mental clarity but I did some studying and I am not any brainer yet

Bodybuilding.com - DMAE Information and Product Listing! DMAE FAQ!

in this article it mentions side effects and it doesnt say anything about it being similar to caffein (the "buzzy effect")

I found it was buzzy initially (first two weeks of taking it, 10mins after taking - I took it with a vit c fizzy tablet in a cup of water), but then if I took too much it make me very drowsy.

Now I've figured out the dosage I need to take and I no longer get that burst.

Obvi it's quite dependant on the person taking it as not everyone gets that "buzz"

I think eagray has it pretty well sussed.

DMAE is meant to taken over a long period of time so small, cumulative-in-effect doses are the order of the day. When I took it it was simply that I stayed awake for longer and never felt mentally "foggy". On the other hand I never felt buzzy either.

Incidentally if you ate a small can of sardines you's be getting a fairly large dose of DMAE as well. At least one anti-aging guru has biult a protocol around this and suggested eating them every day.

The anti-aging aspect of DMAE is linked to its ability to dissolve very slowly, but very surely (eighteen months to two years was the general guideline) the build up of oxidised, cross-linked waste proteins that get bound to light metals (mostly potassium I seem to remember) in the body.

This substance is called "lipofuscin", its brown in colour and is the principal ingredient in "liver-spots" that you see on the backs of old people's hands and on their faces. When this substance accumulates in the brain it was/is implicated in mental degeneration. It is also a major cause of age-related macular degeneration (ie, blindess in the old).

Hence for cosmetic and functional purposes you were reccomended to eat these fish or take a small amount of DMAE supplementally each day.

Yes, DMAE is the main ingredient of Dr Nicholas Perricone's products that promise anti-ageing effects.

I have had a lot of success with it in regards to concentration and focus - but again, you have to play with the dose.

Oh, I also heard there was a link between DMAE and the reducation of hangover effects. Not sure if that's true because I do not drink, but...*shrugs* There you go.

Ha, Dr Nicholas Perricone yes. But the protocol I had in mind pre-dated his by about 15 years. The fish also contained a goodly amount of RNA, and that was a factor in the diet as well.

To be honest I hadn't heard of the anti-hangover effect - but as you say if you were into anti-aging you wouldn't be interested in drinking to excess in any case.

What sort of dose of DMAE are you on eagray?

It wasn't until after I started taking DMAE that I found out it came from fish. Should have realised from the God awful smell

I take DMAE Bitartrate powder in a glass with a fizzy vit C pill (I tested that and when I first started taking it, it made the WHOOSH quicker so I assumed the Vit C helps absorbtion? Might just be me)

I take approx 1 tsp *looks on side of tub* And that is equal to... Gosh. Let me get my calc out.

Just over 3000mg of DMAE B = 1010mg of DMAE pure.

    1g every other day.

However, when I first started I was taking 3g every day for about 1.5 years. That dose had a habit of making me drowsy. Then when I saw the effects, I scaled back a little and the dose I am on now seems to be just fine.

...but what the heck do I know.

Wotan, that is exactly what I wanted to try it for. I do get a certain level of this from Taurine, but wanted to try DMAE.

I have been away for a few days now, so haven't gotten to order it yet, so I must get my finger out and get some with a few other items I need form MP.

Thanks for the warning on the drowsy effects eagray, I must monitor it for a while closely, as alertness and sharpness of mind is more my desired outcome. I do use some other supps (Taurine, Ginseng and Ginkgo) that can aid this outcome, so I must try the DMAE on it's own for a while till I get a feel for it before trying others to see what works best.
