    Hi,

I take my whey protein with skimmed milk but my girlfriend has just been told down the gym that taking it with milk will make it take 3 times as long to be absorbed.

Considering I've been told there's a 20 - 45 minute window optimally to get protein in you post workout this might be a problem.

What do you guys think? It tastes much better with milk!

    Cheers,
    Andy

doesn't really matter dude. it's the overall intake of the day that matters. as long as you hit the numbers at the end of the day then it's all cool.

yup, tastes loads better with milk.

i personally rarely take my shakes straight after gym. can't be bothered really as i have to haul more stuff to and from work, then to and from gym.

Milk will slightly slow the absorbtion, donīt know if its by 3 times though.

Plus I wouldnīt worry to much about this "optimal window" you talk about. It is more important that you hit your overall protein daily target than getting it asap after training.

If you prefer it with milk, my advise would be to keep having it with milk.

Me too - I make mine with fully skimmed milk - circa 200ml of skimmed milk - which is 0.1% fat.

That means there is only 0.2g of fat in the milk element ! Whereas there is over 2.0g of fat in the Whey protein itself! (Source: MyProtein Impact Whey protein nutritional information - per 30g) So there is 10 TIMES as much fat in the shake powder than there is in the skimmed mik you use to mix it with !!!!

So I think these people who say the "fat in the milk slows down absorbtion" are talking ********!!
    5' 11" - now 101 Kg (was 120Kg on 01/01/2010 - target 89 Kg by 01/01/2011)
