I have been using myprotein for a couple of years now but decided to sign up on the forums to get some advice...

First I thought i'd just give a bit of background info. I've been working out for about 2 years on and off. Weight has gone from about 145lbs to 170lbs with around the same bf% (I am 6ft).

I won't be working out for the next 5 months. However I have made the decision that after this period I am going to hit the gym harder than I have done in the past. I am an ecto as you might have gathered from my stats. I plan on getting down the perfect diet and taking a few more supplements than before (used to only take whey and fish oil).

So basically I have attached my diet which shows both on and off days, and includes supps (all of which are from MyProtein). I forgot to add cod liver oil which I will be taking at breakfast.

    Questions about EAAs:
    1. I have decided to go with EAAs instead of BCAAs, is this a good choice?
    2. As you can see I will be taking one 'vitamin B complex tablet' with each 10g of EAAs. Will this be okay?
    3. Is 20g of EAA per day enough and am I taking them at the right times?

    Questions about PWO carbs:
    1. I need some carbs to go in my PWO shake to go with the creatine. What would you suggest? I have written down dextrose but I am not sure!

Apart from those questions, does everything else look alright, including the other whole foods? I am new to most of these supps so have researched my best to see what to take them with and when to take them. But I just wanted another opinion.

Thanks for taking the time to read all this (if you bothered to that is!)

    Cheers

(pdf is in the zip folder, wouldn't let me attach it any other way!)

Log what your eating on FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal and count up your calories.

You seem to be focusing too much on the supplements and not enough on whole foods, getting your diet sorted should be your first task.

For Carbs PWO shake Dextrose is fine or even Waxy Maize Starch.

No, don't get me wrong i'm not underestimating the importance of whole foods. It's just that I haven't used most of these supplements before (apart from whey) so I just want to make sure i'll be using them to their fullest potential.

Food wise, I will be following roughly what is planned on that diet. Which does happen to be quite a few calories, maybe it is just the emphasis on the supplements which is shown with the colours that makes it look like there aren't many whole foods going on. There is still 5/6 meals a day consisting of just whole foods even if you remove the supps.

    Cheers

I wasn't able to open your file but in regards to EAA's, I would say they're not necessary unless your cutting, and even then, only when on fairly low cals. You should be getting enough amino acids from the protein in your diet. I assume your bulking/looking to add muscle rather than lose fat?

oats PWO IMO, dextrose or malto will give you a big downfall after 30mins-2 hours, plus oats will keep you fuller aswell as fibre and more protein imo.

The dextrose is fine with the creatine in a post workout shake, you don't need much though.

The file is a pdf. Okay thanks, maybe I will give the EAAs a miss unless anybody else recommends them even whilst bulking? I know that a lot of people have conflicting opinions.

I could add 50g of instant oats (which is around 35g of carbs), and maybe 10g or 20g of dextrose to go with the creatine? The only thing is, with the 2 scoops of whey it might be a bit thick and hard to chug down. Maybe less oats?

Should I eat any whole food carbs as well post workout? Or will it slow down digestion?

    Cheers

I don't think it really matters what form your PWO carbs take. Personally, I just have a banana PWO, but you could use oats, dextrose, malto or whatever. I've even heard of people having haribo for PWO carbs lol.
