I have made a cider vinegar concoction with scotch bonnet chilli's as it extracts the capsaicin into the vinegar and it works well for weight loss. I wondered if this would work with fenugreek seeds to try to save some money. Would the beneficial substances in fenugreek seeds leech out into the vinegar effectively if I added them to the concoction I made? Would you still get the libido and weight loss benefits with it for example?

Sorry that I cant give an answer to your question, although I would hazard a guess and say that it would based on how other seeds/flavourings work in vinegars.
I wanted to ask where you got your seeds from? I've found dried fenugreek before, but never the fresh stuff.

I don't think it's fresh, they are just rock hard seeds in a pot from Tesco, lol. Thinking I should've crushed them first before adding them to the mixture.

I think it should work however.

Well, it is early days - it has only been mixed up for 1 day, it takes a long time for it to infuse properly.

Just get organic cider vinegar, you can pick it up in most supermarkets or health food shops. Pour it into an empty jam jar or something similar - make sure it has no traces of water in it so let it dry if you wash it out. You then add as many hot chili's as you can, preferably something like scotch bonnet (I get mine from Tesco). Be really careful when handling them, don't touch your eyes, even after washing your hands. Wash your hands in milk to break the capsaicin down, it's the best way or just wear disposable gloves if you can get some.

You can then add fenugreek seeds (I get mine from Tesco, in the whole food aisle). You can also add anything else that you fancy; peeled ginger would be a good one to add for it's metabolic boosting effects and it's good for testosterone production apparently.

Put the lid on tightly, put it in a dark cupboard and shake it every morning. After about a week it should be at a decent strength to start adding it to water as a general tonic and weight loss aid. About 3 teaspoons of it in a pint of water. Make sure the tonic goes into the water and not on the side of the glass though, your lips would get a shock if you tasted it directly and you will need to wash your mouth out with milk to stop the burn lol.

Just to mention, the hard fenugreek seeds have gone all soft and expanded this morning - so the infusion seems to have worked well.

Thanx for info. Is this the old trick or something that you have invented? Also, whole fenugreek or crushed?

I have made up this concoction myself, but got the idea from a magazine about infusing garlic in cider vinegar for helping to fight off colds and flus.

Fenugreek can be whole or crushed, but if you crush it then you are more likely to get little bits of fenugreek in your drinks, which are harmless but annoying.

I've just made mine. What should I do with chilies/ginger and all that when finish with vinegar? Add more or make it all over again?
