james88 i'm going to highjack your thread for my own needs!

I'm a veggie (though i will eat prawns) an dam finding it difficult to bulk up as much as i'd like.
    My current diet is

6am 3 eggs scambled on 1 piece wholemeal toast and a cup of green tea
8am Hurricane XS (made with water) post gym
10am Porridge with skimmed milk powder, honey, sunflower seeds and mixed nuts
12pm usually a low fat prawn mayo sandwich (or left overs from previous night)
    3pm Banana and an apple
6pm Hurricane XS (made with water)
8pm Something with quorn/veggie burgers and veggies

Snacks - Mixed nuts and raisins or 1 piece wholemeal toast with peanut butter

    Height - 6ft
    Weight - 12st 5lb
    Age - 33

The hardest thing for me is finding something decent for lunch (i'm on a tight budget!) or high protein snacks. Any tips or ideas?

    Cheese? Whole milk?

1 pint milk and 100g cheese is roughly 900 calories. Excellent for bulking. You could include 2 pints of milk in your list just adding your Hurricane to it instead of water! And you're bulking, ditch the low fat mayo or low fat anything and have full fat!
Add extra fat to your 8pm meal.
Cook your eggs in a healthy dollop of butter, and pour that over your eggs and consume if it doesn't mix in.
Add double cream to your shakes.

All ways to up your calories.

    Cheers Zombie,

Normally i would use whole milk in my shakes and eat more cheese, but i've got something coming up in November where i want to be lean still. I'm doing plenty of running, football etc as well, do you think i can increase my calorie intake and not increase my waist size at the same time??

Should i try and stay away from starchy carbs, esp in the evening?

I would say it depends on how quickly you want to bulk. Most would want to put on weight quickly which would include fat, and then go on a cut to lose the fat. If you are happy to slowly bulk without putting on fat then I would check out Leangains (search the site, people have more info) or maybe check out James' log as I think that is what he is doing. It is a slow process though.

With regards the starchy carbs they may be necessary but it would depend on your current quota. I work out you need roughly 3500 calories to bulk (3000 is maintenance) so you need to work out what your daily diet calorie intake currently is before you start making changes. This will give you insight in to how much room you have to manouevre, whether you are under or over (you are probably way under).

    Ok, cheers,

I'll start by adding milk to my shakes, eating more for lunch and popping a sweet potato into my evening meal plan!
