Been training for 16 years and taking protein suppliments for that long too

Ive bought some Whey Isolate recently and having 2 of these a day is giving me stomach pains - i dont mean wind or bloat either
im not lactose intolerant because ive drank 18 pints of milk a week for 10 years
i used to use whey concentrate and dont remember having pains with that, its only recently ive switched to isolate

do you guys suggest i switch to a different product?

Some people claim that isolates are bad for the body, I know that Dr Mercola doesn't advocate it's use. (I know he is a money-grabber, but he knows what he is talking about).

Try cutting down on the dairy in general, pasteurised milk is not very good for the body anyway. Try getting back on the whey concentrate, or you can even try the goats whey if you have the cash, it is easier to digest.

Also, just because you have always been able to drink dairy, it doesn't mean that you will always get away with it. I used to drink caffeine every day in moderate amounts for about 10 years and then one day, all of a sudden - my body decided to realise crap loads of histamine each time I drunk it. I can't tolerate it at all now. I know caffeine is different, but it can happen with foods too.

    thanks for the response

i know i get a large amount of calories from milk - i drink semi skimmed but besides the whey drinks i`ll have a bowl of cereal or porridge in the morning, a glass of milk with all my meals and a bowl of cereal at night - but none of those give me stomach pains - its just when i have the whey

im thinking of switching to a different kind of protein -- maybe egg white powder or liquid egg whites -- just not sure how long a bottle of eggwhites is going to last if im trying to get at leasat 60grams of protein from it a day?

I'll make a suggestion which I think will suit you nicely. Get yourself some egg white protein and some bcaa powder... you can use smaller servings of the egg white protein and add some bcaa powder to increase the branched chain amino acids (which as you probably know, are the muscle builders). I would also suggest getting some glutamine powder and take it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach - this increases growth hormone and fixes stomach issues.

Buy samples of other protein powders from MP and try them. See which give you stomach issues and consider switching to one of those that doesn't, after you have weighed up the costs if that is an issue. Buying samples will save you a s**tload of cash buying stomething that doesn't work for you.

@ 34 years old I don't think Glutamine would help in any way unless you have issues, but do check out the thread HGH and recovering from muscle injuries (using L-Glutamine)

    Simples!

Glutamine has way more effects than just increasing growth hormone. It is the primary amino acid in the gut and can help keep the digestive system healthy, especially for individuals that exercise.

As for soy, I wouldn't use it - it has phytoestrogens and other health risks.

I recently had similar issues. I think it may be from either over reliance on powders or just using the same type for too long and developing sensitivity issues to it. I stopped using it for a couple of weeks, and now have no problems again. Perhaps switching to a non-whey protein every couple of months will help avoid issues.

It appears he doesn't have digestive issues apart from taking one product, Whey Isolate, so in a sense Glutamine will not help. You also stated that 'it increases growth hormone and fixes stomach issues'. That thread is worth a read to anyone taking glutamine for any reason.

Trying another protein powder, or taking a break from protein powders, may be the solution for him.
