    Hello
Ive been training for nearly 2 years now and as I cant have dairy products of any kind Ive been using soya protein isolate (with Oats pre wo and Malto post wo). After reading all the scare storys about soya I think im going to give something else a try for 12 weeks while I start stronglifts, just to see how I get on. The other thing ive noticed with the soya powder is that I feel really bloated after drinking it and struggle to eat a decent meal with the hour after taking it.
Im going to give rice or pea or both protein powder a bash. Does anyone on here use them? Other than the taste which I dont care about, are there any downside compared to the soya powder?
Also if i go for using both, would you do a 50/50 mix of the two (say 20g pea and 20g rice)?
Cheers for any advice you can give
    James

    Hey James,

My biased advice would be, if its possible, to just get all your protein from whole foods, and ditch the supplements. I only use whey to bump up my protein total. Theres a lot of guys here who just eat big meals, especially for PWO.

I've no experience with the vegan protein stuff MP sell but I wouldnt think there'd be a need to buy both types unless you wanted to do a trial. If you dont, just pick the one with the best amino profile, nutrient content, one that'll fit you macros etc.

Cheers Zeigler! My diets pretty good and I do try and eat whole food, however I do need the convience of shakes - for instance when Im up at 6am, need to train and be in work for 8am. Some one mentioned before on here about using both to get the most complete amino profile, as im no expert and they are pretty much the same price was going to give that a go. What they will taste like together may be interesting...

Nice one dope! A good few articles worth reading at Online Library Overview | Mahler's Aggressive Strength so thanks for that. Both him and a UFC fight interviewed on the site recommend to staying away from soya protein powder.

Think Im going to order both rice and pea and have a mess around with which work best for me. For anyone interested ill let you know how I get on

Is there any reason I.e. religious/intolerance/other medical condition that you can't use an animal derived protein? Using any supplement is not essential but if your going to use one, personally I'd aim for animal based every time and would use a BCAA/leucine mix if egg, whey isolate/hydrolysate and casein hydrolysate are not options before using plant based powders.

    I cant have dairy either.

I have tried hemp which is hard work.

now i use egg white powder, choc flavouring powder and soya milk. take some time to get it right as you need correct proportions. result is nice.. chocolatey and creamy.

I do miss the ready made shakes so bought a tub and premixed a load plus threw in some creatine, oats, etc. works a treat. i use Alpro organic soya milk (sweetened) so there is a soya source but most of it is egg based.

Only issue is., its quite a slow release.
