Soaking brown rice is more than possible, but as Bill has said above, it proves troublesome and will take an even longer time to completely degrade the anti-nutrients in the grain husk. We are lucky with rice, as it is reasonably low in total anti-nutrients (when compared to, say, wheat), as it is already gluten free; but does still contain nasties. At the end of the day, we can say this is all micromanagement, but to be honest I don't think it is that hard to do/remember and VASTLY improves the texture and taste of the rice, obviously, in my opinion.

Pretty much, warm water with a little lemon or vingar (optimally, that is!), providing an acidic substance can increase the anti-nutrient leeching effects. Upon cooking preparation, I wash the rice through a further 5-6 times to completely clear the water of all cloudly-ness - this final step is a traditional Japanese washing method.

i don't bother soaking my rice. just wash, add to rice cooker, add water, then switch it on when cooking dinner. ooops, kinda do soadk them, but depends on what else i have planned for hte day.
I'm not fussy at all, I eat to the situation; which at the moment allows me to optimally tweak things for the best. That said, in Japan I will be mostly eating at home to save on money (buying in bulk), so I would say my diet will be better there than back here in the UK! Obviously thanks to the vast, and cheap, amounts of kelp, nori, sake salmon, meguro tuna, aussie beef, pastured eggs etc etc, and pretty much all the time in the world to prepare meals (pretty much).

So are we now saying that white rice is better than brown? I eat a lot of both for lunch most days. I'd always assumed that brown was healthier!

So james, you are pretty much on a paleo diet and get all your carbs from berries and veggies, whilst doing the IF. Im thinking of going paleo but I think it will take a lot of getting used to not having my wholemeal toast and brown rice to fuel my day. And I believe milk is a no no?

I've read a lot of your posts/articles and they are awesome, however ive missed my gym session today because of you, cant stop reading up on nutrition now!

imo rice isnt paleo, but some folks do eat it.

you get used to no grains after a few weeks, then wonder why the F did you bother eating it in the first place :P

As I said above, white rice isn't healthier than brown, it is merely less harmful and maybe even the safest way of getting a large amount of carbs in with negliable harm to the body (outside of potato, which is bloatly as hell when eating big amounts). If your requirements aren't for such a large whack of carbs then potatoes alone will suffice, and prove better for nutrients and vts/mins than rice.

Being 'paleo' is pointless, you cannot fully simulate what was eaten in paleo times by paleo design. My signature quote echoes the answer to the whole use of the word 'paleo', and how it should be interepted in the modern age.

Their lifting makes me cringe! Weird, Rob Wolf runs a crossfit gym and I pretty much echo the majority of his views on nutrition (aside from his mimum use of non-decaf coffee!), he is a big fan of eating homemade chips on the odd occaison too! Preferably cooked in ghee or animal fat, of course

Replace grains with loads of veggies and other forms of carbs such as lentils and various types of beans is my interpretation? so for example instead of my scrambled egg on toast i could eat scrambled egg or boiled eggs with spinach and lentils/borlotti beans? its all very interesting, doesnt feel like ive got enough time in the day to read the masses of information!
