    Hey all,

this may sound a stupid question but if anyone will know the answer its you guys!

basically my gran (!!) is quite frail, underweight/has sore joints etc.

She seen me drinking my protein and asked what it was and was trying to explain how it works etc , and she was asking if there is anything she could take, basically to build up immune system, joint flexibilty, maybe put on a bit of weight etc in a shake?

She is a vegetarian so doesn't intake a lot of protein and eats wholemeal bread etc..

Thanks for your help in advance guys!

Some Omega-3's and a multivit to help support the immune system and joints. As for weight gain, I think she should stick to whole foods as shes doing, just eat abit more. Drinking a cup or two of green tea a day will help too with overall well-being...

These are just the obvious ones though..
Can everyone stop thinking so much.please?

I would say high-priority supps are the best mult vit-min you can get (yet another call for MP to get the NOW Vit-Min100 tabs in stock), high potency glucosamine / chondroitin formula, and an Essential Fatty Acid Formula (not fish oils, as she is vegetarian). A probiotic (the NOW Gr8-Dophilus are the best) would also help maintain a healthy immune system and gastrointestinal tract, which tends to degrade with age. In Patrick Holford's New Optimum Nutrition Bible there is an excellent section on aging and how supps can help.

To gain some weight, she could try one of the MP vegetarian proteins. The hemp seed protein would have been best, as it is relatively high in calories and quite balanced with carbs, fibre, and EFA's too, but unfortunately MP are out of stock . Soy would be my next choice as it has the best amino acid profile.

If she starts taking supps, tell her she needs to take them EVERY DAY with food, and to be patient for any benefits to appear, as it may take a while for them to take effect. When i advised some supps for my parents, they though the effect would be instant, and couldnt get it into their heads that they need to take them consistently every day
