if you could only have one, which one would you get?

just starting out again and desperately trying to get myself fitter & stronger for Rugby.

6'3"ish and about 18st (yes i know fat git! lol) but after severly spraining my ankle skiing and then doing my other one about 8 weeks ago jogging, it would appear i need to concentrate on something "better" for me! lol

i'm relatively strong as i'm quite a big bloke all over but have the usual fat gut that i'm gonna be getting rid of hopefully.

been reading ALOT of info on here recently and seems "normal" cardio can be beaten by doing weights instead (and less impact on my old knees!).

unfortunately money & space doesn't allow a big set of equipment, but seems a sand bag and/or kettlebells would be ideal and (if i've read right) can help me no end.

so at the moment out of the choice which would be best for a "noob" to get back into it and lose some body fat?

also what weights should i be looking at?

    cheers for the help

Take it your in the front row man? anyhow I would actually advice getting to your local pub and asking them have they got any spare kegs you can buy, I had a look on youtube and search ross training, the stuff u can do with one is immense. But Kettlebells are cheaper and even more variation, would you not use sandbags in your preseason training?

    Why not do both?

Make your own Sandbag, you can do it cheap enough. Dope 540 made a thread in this forum about making one.

If you're buying kettlebells pick them uup off e-bay go 16kg as your lightest one and work from there.

Buy Pavel Psatsoulines Enter the Kettlebell, good manual for kettle bell training.

yes m8y loose head prop (when i'm actually fit and not got buggered legs!) hoping to get playing flanker again when fitter.

problem is my club is a tad amateur and doesn't have weights or anything and with my ankle still as it is, i can't do any of their pre-season training.

so thought i can do some non-impact "cardio" work (only cos i read about it all on here mind!!)

i'd go for sandbags as it's a lot cheaper and you can do some of the stuff you do with kettlebells.

check out my thread on sandbags here on the forum. have a gander at the whole thread as there's some upgrades done on them and ideas from other posters. for around 25 quid, i have 75kg to play with atm. it's a lot harder than you think training with them.

they make good door stops and seats as well. hahaha
