kool I wish gyms would get the fat bars in.
After seeing a video on youtube about making your own fat bar I decided to make one myself. There were some scaffolding poles in my brothers garage and I just needed to find some plate stoppers. A girl I knows dad has a scaffolding company and he said I could have a look around his yard for something that would work. So here is what I've ended up with:

It's about 1.9" I'd guess. The olympic weights fit almost the same as they do on my actual olympic bar. I believe it's just a standard size scaffolding pole that was about 8ft in lengh, there was enough left at the end to make an 18" dumbbell. I have 2 more of the poles so I'm going to make another dumbbell and some farmer carry type handles.
could you tell me how much the weights you used weigh, also are the plate stoppers fixed permanently or can you add more ? is the weight you used rubber or iron?
cheers
The weights on the bar weigh 15kg and 10kg each, so total weight about 60kg. And they are iron olympic weights. The plate stoppers are kind of fixed permantly but could be taken off if needed as they are just tightened with a spanner. I was going to get them welded but they are very strong and don't really need it.
Is this what you used for the stoppers ? http://www.globalbuildingsupplies.co.../joint-pin.jpg known as a scaffold joint pin. How far in did you have the stoppers from the each end?
thanks,
I thought this thread was going to be about food![]()
That isn' the same as my stopper. I've looked on scaffolding websites before and not seen any the same as what I used. The one I used was as it is now with a longer piece sticking off to one side which my friend grinded off for me.
