looks very much like a hack squat machine. except that it isnt slanted.
a machine i'm afraid this one to be presice, this and calve extensions on leg press are the only 2 machine based exercises left in my routine. I have a smith machine I could use but people on here have advised that would do me more bad than good. And another gym isn't an option i'm affraid.

the foot plate is slanted and the upwards movement is probly 10deg past being at right angles to the floor.
The starting postion is allways at the bottom too which is quite annoying as with all machines the hardest part of it is the intial lift to get it of the other plates. At least the starting postion isn't fixed, i can acctually lower to a point where my buut it lower than my fett. Thats almost an impossible movement, even with just 10kg on it!!!

you allowed to do cleans at the gym?
you could do front squats using a clean grip.

that could be a bit painfull with an ezbar couldnt it!! thats the only 'free' bar in the place. I already get whinged at for deadlifting with it, they not going to like me hoicking it up to my shoulders are they!!!

have enquired when they getting 'better' equipment in and thay say they dont have any plans to, as it will attract the 'wrong clientelle', then followed up by asking if they know where these 'wrong clientelle' train and they said they didnt know, but not going to advertise a rival gym if they did. FFS council ran gyms!!!!!!

They don't want the 'big guys' in because it puts off a lot of the newbies/smaller people etc.. so they don't have the equipment that they want to use. It's more of a 'fitness suite' than a gym, and it's in the council ran leasiure centre so there is all sorts of red tape and risk assessments for every peace of equipment they install.
The problem is I can't find the gym that these big guys go to, I know theres is a couple of spit n sawdust places in neighbouring industrail estates but the only one I know of is invite only, basically a bunch of guys renting out a unit between them.
