    lol

can remember one of the occasions quite clearly, was 27th dec 1996, we ended up bivying down the slopes below swirral edge/above red tarn!!! (was the sledging varity of bivying!!!). we'd been up to see if was safe enough to go over swirral in the snow but wasn't so went to head back down, there was about 10 of us in the group, so we made a 'wall' of 8 people on the path and were taking it 2 at atime climbing the slopes to come sledgeing back down at the wall!!!

The group leader didn't know 4 of us had bottles 'white lightening' in ruksacs (hey I was only 16 at the time)

    Wicked laugh.

    ------------

Had a quick google about and there doesn't seem to be much in the way of outdoor swimming in the NE, just 2 lads near weardale on the swimclub forum.
There's a bit in scarbourgh but tbh I can get to penrith quicker than there.

Not even anything on the ASA NE website. Will have a better look tonight. Also my old swimming club still train out of the leisure centre my gyms in, next time I see them training my pop in to ask if they no anything going on round here.

If I get going I'll start off in the pool, but would love to progress to the outdoors!! Whenever people talk about doing stuff for charity like bungees/great north runs etc.. the one thing I've allways thought to myself I'd love a shot at would be a channel crossing!

Taff The fact they keep their nutrients means they are HOLY. Cucumbers are just vile, bland watery things that make everything else around them taste of them!! And, umm, yes, I'm mad. I was thoroughly enjoying the waves! Just our support rowing boats couldn't keep up with the swimmers because it was like rowing into a brick wall for them.

Dave - it can be a bit tricky for us old farts, most swimming clubs only cater for youngsters. If you want to find out if there is anywhere the British Long Distance Swimming Association (www.bldsa.org.uk) might be worth a shot...

The Channel? Ooh...now that is mad. My friend did it this year and her stories and the state of her afterwards put me off for life!

Good grief...White Lightning...that does take me back. I think I passed out in the Rugby Club toilets after drinking that... or was it Diamond White? I don't know, I can't remember!

Slight detour this week! Diet has been spot on although due to external pressures training on Wednesday did not happen

Still, managing to keep diet fully on track and looking forward to Abs tonight and the weekend giving me a bit of space to make sure I can get things planned properly for next week.

Going to do all my measurements, pics etc and all that on Sunday and officially start the measuring from then, rather than have some measurements from last week, some from a couple of weeks ago etc. Am also going to just measure and report etc once a month as advised by Martin in another post...

So, still here, still moving forward! Most pleased about my diet this week though. It's hard completely changing the way you have always eaten but am not giving in! Pleased as well to be eating enough as well. At least I think 1600 cals is enough, but we will see. Tweaking may be required, but not to worry!

Just concerned about what I will be ABLE to eat. Next part of brace work being fitted today and my teeth are only just settling down from last week (but couldn't actually eat my lunch yesterday because they were so sore and had to have a shake instead). Damn....

    Hey hun

If you can still keep to the diet, things will settle with life outside and all you have to do is concentrate on the regime. You can do it, you know you can, so just do it!

With regard to the braces, I can understand they're sore, but hey if everything was the way we wanted it to be and there were no small obstacles in our way where would they sense of achievement come from? A little bit of pain for now and a tweak to some habits + patience for everything to settle = your goal. And when you reach that, it'll all be worth it! Just remember that!

Have fun hun, good luck with the training!

Hi Taff - thanks! But I will say it isn't just sore. I've got some barbaric metal things in my mouth as well as the train tracks which rip my mouth & tongue to shreds and I can't chew properly because my back teeth don't meet. It takes me forver to eat anything, and a lot of things I can't eat because it's either too painful or just impossible. So, its soft food and protein shakes for me!

Good news is that I'm not freaking about the Christmas meals out and the Christmas week now...I can't eat it anyway! Already pulled out of two meals. It just aint gonna happen.

Anyway, on a really positive note now!!!!!!

Did my shoulder programme today and did PBs on three of the sets!!!! WOO HOO!!!

Also pushed myself through the 30 minute HIIT on the treadmill and felt awesome afterwards.

    Not only that....

I tried my red Christmas dress on (which I'm not actually going to get to wear now! ) and it fitted me perfectly whereas a few weeks ago it didn't!

Also tried on some trousers and tops and even though I haven't lost much size as such, everything fitted so much better!!!!!!!! Am noticing how my muscle is building nicely and I've got a feeling that now I'm starting to reap the benefits of actually getting the correct calories and macro break down.

Will be interesting tomorrow morning...even though in some ways I'm starting the measurements from then, I will report back on any changes based on previous measurements.

    SUNDAY
    Gooooooood day!

    Sunday – Legs & HIIT
Smith Machine Squats / Seated Leg Press (Machine)/ Leg Extension
(Machine)/ Hamstring Curl (Machine)/ Calf Machine

4 sets of all of the above, between 8 and 12 reps for each, except for the calf machine which was 35 reps higher weight, 18 reps higher weight, 18 reps lower weight x 2 sets

30 minutes HIIT step machine - heart rate constantly monitored between 60% and 80% of max heart rate throughout

Measurements taken this morning, and not as bad as I thought! Did my body fat with the accumeasure calipers, and got same reading (withing 1 mm) 4 times. Gives a good indication - and I am solidly in average not fat! Yippeee!!!!!!!!! Even better in March because then I am 31 so actually doing quite well for a 30 year old!

Not going to actually tell you the measurements I'm afraid cos I am rather embarrassed, but will report regularly on how much it goes down. My aim is that by the start of the open water swimming season (end May) I will have body fat of between 20 and 22%. I need to play that by ear as due to the nature of my sport I do need to keep a slightly higher BF than some of you guys do.

Good news is this last 2 weeks I have lost 2 pounds and also a significant amount of size (more than the 2 pounds would suggest!) - bit difficult to be exact given the fact that I only really started proper measurements and eating properly the last couple of weeks.

Really really really pleased though! Actually managed to find two pairs of trousers yesterday that went over my thighs even though I am still the same size so definitely lost body fat from there.

PLUS I'm good for entertainment, grunts and groans all over the place...oweeeee squats hurt!!! (in a GOOOOOD way )

In two weeks time I will report back with physical numbers as a change, and I'm hoping they wont have increased in a bad way given the fact I wont be having the meals out etc that I thought was going to.

Keep it going hun! Fantistic news. I'd actually pay to hear you in the gym though. In my mind it sounds like an animal crying out in the wild of a tropical rainforest. No idea why
