Ok, almost 3 weeks in and some progress bits.

Weight is dropping nicely, since the 1st January I'm down from 208.6lbs to 201.8lbs. It's predictably slower than the initial week but it's still about 2lbs a week progress.

Hunger is still not an issue, though I have found my tastes changing. I've been living on very good quality meats and was given some mixed grill from a local indian. I found the taste strange, like spices on very bland meat. Usually I enjoy the food there but I didn't feel like finishing the little bit I was given. Probably a change for the better though!

I'm having a week off from training. It's a shame since I think my bench is almost ready to jump above 100kg, but while dipping with 40kg on the belt I felt a sharp pain in my sternum by my right pectoral. I don't think anything was damaged permanently but even body weight dips were causing pain after that so I took it as an indication to back off for a week. It's been a couple of months since I last took some time off so I was about due a deload anyway.

My girlfriend has been following my progress and she's indicated she'd like to try it for a few weeks, if she does I'll try and add some female perspective to this journal too.

I'll let him answer it, unless he's embarrassed by my puny lifts! The avatar thing was because he was doing his first low carb as I was playing with zero carb, so they're not really matching.

Update on my progress while I'm here. I pulled my right pec where it attaches to the sternum. My bench is going ok and I'm at 100Kg for reps, but dipping has been reduced to partial bodyweight efforts. By shifting to put more emphasis on my arms I managed to do 3 reps this evening which was a nice achievement.

I've also added in some very very light spinal compression lifts. Squats are at 20kg (bar only) for 3 sets of 10. It's easy enough but lets me focus on keeping my lower back tensed and straight. I'll increase it very slowly so long as I don't run into any problems.

I've upped my soft tissue work, particularly in my Biceps Femoris with a golf ball which instantly increases my flexibility. I suspect I may have some knots in my hamstrings which are damaging my flexibility and am considering a recommended sports masseuse.

Diet has been relaxed to fairly strict primal, very little fruit but some gold top milk and cheese.

We were contemplating using it to stage some hilariously funny co-ordinated April Fools joke, but haven't come up with anything yet. In the absence of that, we've been amusing ourselves by dropping the odd hint (the avatars being one) to see if anyone would twig.

Much better, I'm now squatting again, though taking it slow and using this dip in performance to work on form wherever I can. My front squat is u to 60Kg, I'm not deadlifting yet but if progress continues I will be at some point. I haven't taken painkillers for it since I can remember or felt any pain, my limp from the sciatic nerve being tweaked is gone and generally feeling good all round.

My front squat is definitely fine, I completed a comfortable 5x5 with good form on Tuesday. I'm still driving to improve my form rather than lift maximally at the moment, it's taken me nearly 2 years to get back to squatting without consequence and I'm in no hurry to re-injure myself since I dread to think how long it would take to fix next time round.
